Walt Disney Records has released the original song Wind in My Hair from the Disney Channel original movie Tangled Before Ever After. The track is performed by Mandy Moore and written by Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Enchanted) and lyricist Glenn Slater (Galavant, Home on the Range) who also wrote the songs for Disney’s Tangled. The song is now available to download as a digital single on Amazon. Tangled Before Ever After tells the story set the feature film Tangled and the short Tangled Ever After and precedes the new series Tangled: The Series. The movie features the voices of Moore, Zachary Levi, Julie Bowen, Clancey Brown, Eden Espinosa, Jeff Ross, Richard Kind, Jeffrey Tambor and Paul F. Tompkin.

Disney Channel’s ‘Tangled’ TV Series to Feature Music by Alan Menken & Glenn Slater and Kevin Kliesch
Disney announced today that composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater will be composing new songs for the upcoming animated series Tangled based on the 2010 hit movie of the same title. Kevin Kliesch is set to compose the original score for the show, which will feature the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi who are reprising their roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. The series is set between the feature film and the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After and unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona.
A.R. Rahman, Randy Newman and Alan Menken to perform at the Academy Awards
According to the Hollywood Reporter, all Academy Award-nominated song will be performed at this year’s Oscar telecast. A.R. Rahman and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine will perform the song If I Rise from Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, which has lyrics co-written by Dido and Rollo Armstrong. Rahman is also nominated for his original score on the movie. Alan Menken, who is nominated for writing the song I See the Light from Disney’s animated film Tangled, will accompany singers Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi on the piano. Randy Newman will perform his song We Belong Together from Pixar’s Toy Story 3. Finally, Gwyneth Paltrow will be singing the nominated song Coming Home from Shana Feste’s Country Strong. The 83rd Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 27 and will air on ABC.

Oscar-eligible scores announced
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ music branch has sent out a list of all 77 Oscar-eligible scores for 2011’s Academy Awards ceremony. As previously reported, a number of scores has been ruled ineligible (Black Swan, The Fighter, True Grit, The Kids Are All Right) by the music branch and Randy Newman hasn’t submitted his score for Toy Story 3. The list also doesn’t include Alan Menken’s score for Tangled, which apparently also hasn’t been submitted, while a song from the movie written by Alan Menken is among the frontrunners for getting a song nomination. As Variety notes, James Newton Howard has four scores in contention (The Last Airbender, Love and Other Drugs, Salt, The Tourist), while Alexandre Desplat (The King’s Speech, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow: Part 1, The Ghost Writer) and David Arnold (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Made in Dagenham, Morning Glory) have three scores each on the list.

Tangled soundtrack album coming
Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album to the upcoming animated movie Tangled on November 16. Both the film’s songs and score written by Alan Menken are included on the album.
