Robbie Robertson has passed away today at age 80. The songwriter, composer and guitarist who was best known as a member of the rock group The Band and his solo records has worked on numerous films directed by Martin Scorsese over the last couple of decades. He has scored the director’s 1986 feature The Color of Money, as well as his last two movies, 2019’s The Irishman and the upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and will be released in theaters on October 6. Lee Mendelson Film Productions has announced the world premiere release of the complete score from the 1973 animated special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving written by Charles M. Schulz and directed by Bill Melendez & Phil Roman. The album features the original music from the 10th Peanuts special composed by Vince Guaraldi (A Charlie Brown Christmas, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Boy Named Charlie Brown), including previously unreleased bonus material. Netflix Music will release a soundtrack album for the streamer’s original animated series Mech Cadets. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Max Aruj (CrawlThe Ice Road, iBoyThe Tank, Lansky). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 10 and will be available to stream/download on all major digital music services, including Amazon. Three first tracks have already been released as a digital single last week. Mech Cadets is based on the Mech Cadet Yu graphic novels created by Greg Pak & Takeshi Miyazawa and features the voices of Brandon Soo Hoo, Aparna Brielle, Victoria Grace, Daniel Dae Kim, Anairis Quiñones, Robbie Daymond, Josh Sundquist and Ming-Na Wen. The animated sci-fi action series tells the story of an underdog teen who joins a group of young Cadets who’ve been chosen to bond with Robo Mechs from space and defend Earth against alien invaders. Sony Classical will release a new “extended edition” of the score album for the animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The album features the film’s original score composed by Daniel Pemberton (Enola Holmes, Steve JobsKing Arthur: Legend of the Sword, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Birds of Prey, Ocean’s 8The Trial of the Chicago 7), including three previously unreleased tracks. The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, August 10 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. In related news, a vinyl edition of the score album is scheduled to come out on November 17 and is available for pre-order here. A CD version will be available to order here soon. The label, which has also announced a release of the album in Sony 360RA & Dolby Atmos formats on August 10, has previously released the original score album in June, while Republic Records has released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from and inspired by the movie. Composer Philippe Rombi (Swimming Pool, Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion, Potiche, War of the Buttons, In the House, Angel) is reteaming with director Yann Gozlan (Burn Out, A Perfect Man) on the upcoming French psychological thriller Visions. The film is written and directed by Gozlan (Burn Out, A Perfect Man) and stars Diane Kruger, Mathieu Kassovitz and Marta Nieto. The movie follows a married airline captain who begins an affair with her a former flame, when she gets recurring visions, nightmares and hallucinations and starts losing grip on reality. Hippocampus has released a soundtrack album for the French comedy Paint It Gold (Un coup de maître). The album features the film’s original music composed by Laurent Perez Del Mar (The Red Turtle, I Kill Giants, My Son, The Mystery of Henri Pick, The Kitchen Brigade, Zarafa). Alex Belcher (Extraction21 Bridges, Citadel, Made in Italy, The Contractor) has recently scored the upcoming horror thriller All Fun and Games. The film is directed by Eren Celeboglu & Ari Costa and stars Natalia Dyer, Asa Butterfield, Laurel Marsden, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Annabeth Gish. The movie revolves around a group of Salem teens who discover a cursed knife that unleashes a demon that forces them to play gruesome versions of childhood games where there can be no winners, only survivors.
