MovieScore Media has announced a soundtrack release for last year’s historical drama Princess Kaiulani. The album features the original score from the film composed by Academy Award-winning composer Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare in Love). The music is performed by the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. The soundtrack will be released on CD and digitally on October 11, 2011. Princess Kaiulani is the feature directing debut of Marc Forby and tells the true story of Princess Ka’iulani’s attempts to maintain the independence of Hawaii against the threat of American colonization at the end of the 19th century. ‘Killer Elite’ Soundtrack Released

Cutting Edge Group’s Pale Blue label has released a soundtrack album for the action thriller Killer Elite. The album features the orginal score by composers Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil, as well as the song Turkish Acid Bath by the English rock band Kasabian. The soundtrack has been released this past Tuesday and is now available digitally in different formats on Pale Blue Soundtracks’ website. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the the family movie Dolphin Tale directed by Charles Martin Smith and starring Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd, Harry Connick, Jr., Kris Kristofferson and Nathan Gamble. The film’s score is written by Mark Isham. Varese Sarabande will be releasing the soundtrack album including Isham’s music on October 11, 2011. For the soundtrack details, visit our previous article.
Also opening this weekend is the drama Moneyball directed by Bennett Mikler and starring Brad Pitt, Robin Wright, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt. The film’s music is composed by Mychael Danna. A soundtrack album featuring Danna’s score, as well as two songs by Kerris Dorsey and This Will Destroy You has been released earlier this week on Madison Gate Records. Thomas Newman to Score ‘The Iron Lady’

According to the movie’s new poster, Thomas Newman is scoring the upcoming biopic The Iron Lady. We have previously reported a couple of months ago that In Contention announced that Clint Mansell is writing the music for the drama. No word on whether he has written or recorded any material for the project. The Iron Lady directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) stars Meryl Streep as former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. The movie follows her career, which saw her smash through barriers of gender and class in order to be heard in a male-dominated world. Jim Broadbent is co-starring in the Abi Morgan-scripted picture. Varese Sarabande has announced a soundtrack release for George Clooney’s drama The Ides of March. The album includes the original score from the film composed by Alexandre Desplat. The soundtrack will be released on November 1, 2011. More details are expected to be announced in the next couple of weeks and will be posted on this page. The Ides of March stars Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei, Max Minghella and Jeffrey Wright. The movie about a young press spokesman who falls prey to backroom politics recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was also shown at the Toronto Film Festival. Milan Records will be releasing the soundtrack for the upcoming 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers in the US. The album featuring the orginal score from the movie composed by Paul Haslinger will be released on October 18, 2011. Mark Mothersbaugh has been tapped to score Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chip-Wrecked. The movie is directed by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forver After, Sky High) and stars Jason Lee, David Cross, Jenny Slate, Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler, Jesse McCartney, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris and Christina Applegate. In the film, the Chipmunks are turning a luxury cruise liner into their personal playground, until they become ‘chipwrecked’ on a remote island. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger (Kung Fu Panda, Monsters vs Aliens) have written the project’s screenplay. Mothersbaugh’s music is scheduled to be recorded next month. ‘Hawaii Five-0’ Soundtrack Announced

CBS Records has announced a soundtrack release for the new version of the CBS hit show Hawaii Five-0. The album includes the newly arranged Morton Stevens main title theme, as well as a score suite by composers Brian Tyler and Keith Power. Other artists featured on the release include Jimmy Cliff, Goo Goo Dolls, Switchfoot, Corinne Bailey Rae, Train, Bob Dylan, Ziggy Marley and John Cruz. The soundtrack will be released on October 4, 2011 and is now available to pre-order on Amazon. Hawaii Five-0 starring Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, Grace Park and Masi Oka has just entered its second season earlier this week and is airing every Monday night on CBS. ‘Thelma & Louise’ Score by Hans Zimmer Released

Kritzerland has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for Ridley Scott’s 1991 classic Thelma & Louise. The music is written by Hans Zimmer on his second collaboration with the director following Black Rain. The soundtrack is limited to only 1200 copies and is available to order on Kritzerland’s website where you can also listen to audio clips from the album. Only one four-minute track of Zimmer’s score featuring Peye Haycock’s guitar work has previously been released on the offcial 1991 soundtrack album. Thelma & Louise stars Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, Christopher Macdonald and Brad Pitt. The movie has received six Academy Award nominations and ended up winning one Oscar for Callie Khouri’s screenplay.
James Horner In Talks to Score ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

Music editor Jim Henrikson has revealed in a recent interview with SCOREcast Online that James Horner is in talks to score the upcoming comic book adaptation reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man. While the assignment has not been confirmed to us yet, Henrikson who has been Horner’s primary music editor over the last two decades said that the assignment “is pretty well set” at the time of the interview (which was conducted right before the recording sessions of the historical epic Cristiada in May). Check back for an update on this site once we get a confirmation. The Amazing Spider-Man is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard.
