The nominations for the 53rd Grammy Awards have been announced. Here are the nominations for the film music related categories:
Best Score Soundtrack Album for Motion Picture, Television or other Visual Media:
Zarathustra Records will release a soundtrack album for Julie Taymor’s feature-film adaptation of Shakespeare’s last play The Tempest. The soundtrack for the movie starring Helen Mirren marks the first release of Goldenthal’s music label and will be released on December 14. Goldenthal’s indie-rock driven original score album features vocals by Beth Gibbons (Portishead) and Reeve Carney (Carney, star of SpiderMan: Turn Off The Dark, on Broadway) and musicians Benjamin Curtis (Secret Machines), Page Hamilton (Helmet), Mark Stewart (Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman) as well as the composer himself on keyboards to bring the surreal world of the film alive. Nonesuch Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming western True Grit. The album features selections of the score by composer Carter Burwell, who regularly works with the film’s directors Joel and Ethan Coen. The album will be released on December 21. In the movie starring Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin and Matt Damon, a tough U.S. Marshal helps a stubborn young woman track down her father’s murderer. Varese Sarabande Records will release the soundtrack album for the upcoming family adventure film Gulliver’s Travels starring Jack Black, Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. The album features 18 score tracks by composer Henry Jackman. The soundtrack will be released on December 21, one day before the movie opens in theaters. Walt Disney Pictures’ Tangled features songs and score by Alan Menken. Check out our previous article announcing the soundtrack album. Intrada Records announced a new 2 disc soundtrack release of Jerry Goldsmith’s score for the 1982 action movie First Blood. In the movie directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Sylvester Stallone, a mentally unstable Vietnam war vet, when abused with a small town’s police force, begins a one man war with it. The album is the first release of the complete score and also includes the original 1982 soundtrack on a second disc. Varese Sarabande has announced the first CD release of John Williams’ score for Alfred Hitchcock’s Family Plot. Only the film’s end credits has previously been released. Hitchcock’s last movie stars Bruce Dern and Barbara Harris centers around a phony psychic/con artist and her taxi driver/private investigator boyfriend who encounter a pair of serial kidnappers while trailing a missing heir in California. The composer duo tomandandy has been hired to score the upcoming horror thriller The Apparition. In the movie, a couple is haunted by a supernatural presence that is unleashed during a college experiment. The film, which is currently in post-production is directed by Todd Lincoln and stars Tom Felton and Ashley Green. The Apparition is produced by Joel Silver through his Dark Castle Entertainment company and will be released by Warner Bros on September 9, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »
Composer Mark Mothersbaugh has been hired to score the upcoming documentary Born to be Wild 3D. According to Variety, the movie centers on orphaned baby orangutans and elephants receiving a second chance at life in the wild, thanks to primatologist Dr. Birute Galdikas in Borneo and elephant authority Dame Daphne Sheldrick. The documentary directed by David Lickley will be narrated by Morgan Freeman, who previously narrated the hit documentary March of the Penguins.
