Film Music Reporter has received the details for the score album for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The score is composed by Steve Jablonsky who also scored the previous Transformers movies. The score album was originally scheduled to be released on June 28, 2011, but is currently listed as unavailable on Amazon, while still being listed to come out during the week of the film’s global release in several international online stores. The official song soundtrack featuring such bands as Linkin Park, Paramore and My Chemical Romance has already been released last week. Michael Wandmacher has signed on to score the upcoming horror film The Haunting in Georgia. The movie starring Chad Michael Murray, Katee Sackhoff, Abigail Spencer and Cicely Tyson is based on a true story of a young family imperiled by mysterious entities inhabiting their property in the rural South. While the film follows the concept of the 2009 hit The Haunting in Connecticut, the project is a self-contained film with unique characters. The film marks the directing debut of Tom Elkins who served as an editor on The Haunting in Connecticut. Paul Brooks is producing the project. No release date has been announced yet for the Lionsgate production.

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack release for the American Flyer. The album includes the film’s score composed by Mark Kilian (Tsotsi, Rendition, John Carpenter’s The Ward). The soundtrack will be released digitally on July 5, 2011. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below and visit Amazon to download the soundtrack. American Flyer is directed by Mark Christensen and centers on a young Mexican boy whose father is killed crossing the US border and creates a flying machine to take him to Los Angeles. Gingger Shankar has recently scored a number of movies that will be released in the near future.  Most notably, coming out this August is the Iranian drama Circumstance. The film is written and directed by Maryam Keshavarz and revolves around a wealthy family in Iran struggling to contain a teen’s growing sexual rebellion and her brother’s dangerous obsession. The project is produced by Karin Chien and Melissa M. Lee alongside Keshavarz. Circumstance has won the audience award at this year’s Sundance film festival where the film premiered. Geffen/Interscope Records has announced the details for the soundtrack release of the upcoming drama The Help. The album features the original song The Living Proof written and performed by Mary J. Blige, as well as a number of period songs from artists including Johnny Cash and June Carter, Dorothy Norwood, Bo Diddley, Ray Charles, The Orlons, Bob Dylan, Mavis Staples, Bob Dylan and Chubby Checker. None of Thomas Newman’s original score is included. Check back for updates on this page if a separate score album is announced. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

Expected to top the weeekend box office is the comic book adaptation Green Lantern directed by Martin Campbell and starring Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Saarsgard and Mark Strong. The film’s music is composed by James Newton Howard. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score has been released by Watertower Music. Also opening wide is Mark Water’s family comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins starring Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino, Madeline Carroll and Angela Lansbury. The movie’s score is written by composer Rolfe Kent. Fox Music has released a score album for the dramedy The Art of Getting By. The album features 10 tracks from the score by composer Alec Puro and is available as a digital release on iTunes, where you can check out audio clips and download the music. The official soundtrack album featuring numerous songs and three score tracks from the movie was released earlier this week on Rhino Records. Check out our previous article for more details. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 178 new artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures to join the organization. Among the invited artists are two film composers (Terence Blanchard, Graeme Revell) and one music editor (Fernand Bos). Terence Blanchard has been working in the film music industry for more than 20 years. He is best known for his collaborations with Spike Lee, including his music for the Oscar-nominated drama Malcom X, the 2006 hit thriller Inside Man and the drama The 25th Hour, for which the composer has received a Golden Globe nomination. Blanchard has recently recorded his score for the George Lucas-produced drama Red Tails, which is rumored to be released in early 2012. Graeme Revell has been scoring films since the late 80’s. Some of his best known credits include The Crow, The Negotiator, The Siege, Pitch Black, Lara Croft: Tom Raider, Daredevil and Pineapple Express. Read the rest of this entry »

In a recent interview with Danny Elfman at the Grammy Museum’s Clive Davis Theater in downtown Los Angeles, the composer talked about some of his upcoming projects. He revealed that he will be reuniting with director Sam Raimi for the first time since 2004’s Spider-Man 2. Raimi’s next directorial effort is Walt Disney Pictures’ fantasy tentpole Oz: The Great and Powerful. The film is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that finds the titular character arriving in the Land of Oz and being treated like a wizard by the colorful locals. The movie’s cast includes James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz. David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Rabbit Hole) is writing the screenplay and Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is producing. Read the rest of this entry »
