The details of the soundtrack album for the upcoming thriller The Cold Light of Day have been revealed. The album features the original score from the movie composed by Spanish composer Lucas Vidal. The soundtrack has just been released digitally in the UK. UPDATE (August 2012): The soundtrack is now also available to download in the US on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. The Cold Light of Day directed by Mabrouk El Mechri and starring Henry Cavill, Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver marks Vidal’s second high profile project to be released overseas within weeks of each other following James McTeigue’s The Raven starring John Cusack. The thriller about a man whose family is kidnapped while on vacation in Spain opens in the UK and several other international markets in April. A release in the US is scheduled for September 7, 2012. Mark Isham to Score ‘Upside Down’

Mark Isham confirmed in a recent interview with BuzzFocus.com that he is currently working on the music for the upcoming sci-fi romance Upside Down. The film directed by Juan Diego Solanas and starring Kirsten Dunst and Jim Sturgess centers on a a man searching an alternate universe for a long-lost love from his youth. Jayne Heitmeyer, Larry Day and Holly O’Brien are co-starring in the co-production of Studio 37, Onyx Films and Transfilm. Claude Léger (Grey Owl), Dimitri Rassam, Alexis Vonarb & Aton Soumache (Renaissance) and Jonathan Vanger are producing the romantic drama. James Horner Attends ‘Titanic 3D’ Premiere

Last night, James Horner attended the world premiere of James Cameron’s Titanic 3D at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Before the movie started, the composer conducted an orchestral 20-minute suite from his Academy Award-winning score from the film. ‘The Avengers’ Soundtrack Announced

Hollywood Records and Marvel Music have announced the details of the soundtrack release for the superhero film The Avengers. The album features 14 songs from and inspired by the film, including Soundgarden’s end credits song Live to Rise. Also included are tracks by Shinedown, Rise Against, Papa Roach, Black Veil Brides, Scott Weiland, Bush, Evanescence and Cherri Bomb. The soundtrack will be released on May 1, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next couple of weeks. A separate soundtrack album featuring the film’s original score composed by Alan Silvestri will also be released on the same day. Check back on this page for the details of the score album. Jim Dooley to Score Bryan Fuller’s ‘Hannibal’

Jim Dooley revealed at the film composer panel Behind the Music: Composing for WonderCon’s Favorite Projects at the WonderCon 2012 earlier this month that he will be scoring the upcoming TV drama Hannibal. The series is created and executive produced by Bryan Fuller who previously worked with the composer on the critically acclaimed show Pushing Daisies, for which Dooley has received an Emmy Award. The Hannibal TV show is based on the iconic literary and film character Hannnibal Lector created by Thomas Harris and centers on the character’s budding relationship with FBI agent Will Graham. Hugh Dancy has been cast as Graham who was played by Edward Norton in 2002’s Red Dragon. No word yet on who will portray the title character. Martha De Laurentiis who produced the film versions of Hannibal, Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising is an executive producer on the project. Read the rest of this entry »
Expanded ‘Hook’ Soundtrack by John Williams Released

La-La Land Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release of the remastered and expanded original score to the 1991 adventure/fantasy epic Hook directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams and Julia Roberts. The 2-CD release features more than 65 minutes of unreleased music composed by Spielberg’s regular musical collaborator John Williams and contains more than 140 minutes of music in total, including bonus alternate and unused cues. The album assembly was supervised by John Williams and the completed project approved by both Williams and Steven Spielberg. Sister Bliss Scoring ‘Knife Fight’

Sister Bliss has recently scored the upcoming indie drama Knife Fight. The movie is written and directed by Bill Guttentag who has won two Academy Awards for two of his short documentaries, most recently the 9/11-centric Twin Towers in 2003. The film stars Rob Lowe as a maverick political strategist who is struggling to keep his wayward clients, including a philandering Kentucky governor and a California senator being blackmailed – in office and out of the scandal sheets. Julie Bowen, Eric McCormack, Jennifer Morrison, Jaime Chung, Saffron Burrows and Carrie-Anne Moss are co-starring. Guttentag co-wrote the script with political consultant Bill Lehane, best known as a White Hous advisor to Bill Clinton. Guerrino De Luca, Catherine Davila and Daniel Davila (Harrison Montgomery are the producers of the project. Sister Bliss is best known for her work with Rollo Armstrong as part of the electronica band Faithless. Knife Fight marks her first major solo film scoring assignment. The movie is set to debut at the Tribeca Film Festival next month. No word yet on a release date of the film.
Jeff Beal to Score David Fincher’s ‘House of Cards’

Jeff Beal has signed on to composer the score for David Fincher’s highly anticipated Netflix original series House of Cards. The show starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright follows an ambitious politician with his eye on the top job. The political thriller based on the book and BBC mini-series of the same name, which explored the ruthless underside of British politics at the end of the Thatcher era, has been reset against the backdrop of modern-day U.S. electoral politics. Kate Mara, Kristen Connolly, Corey Stoll and Constance Zimmer are co-starring. Beau Willimon (The Ides of March) has written the show’s pilot. Fincher is directing the first two episodes and serves as an executive producer of the Media Rights Capital production alongside Josh Donen (Spartacus: Blood and Sand), Academy Award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), as well as Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti of Trigger Street Productions (The Social Network, 21). John Williams Records ‘Fanfare for Fenway’

John Williams has composed a fanfare for the 100th Anniversary of Boston’s legendary Fenway Park. The piece, which is slightly more than three minutes long was recorded last Saturday at Symphony Hall in Boston by musicians from the Boston Pops Orchestra and conducted by Williams. The composer himself a Red Sox fan and his music has been included in several previous Fenway Park celebrations. Fall On Your Sword are scoring the upcoming indie comedy Lola Versus. The film is directed by Daryl Wein (Breaking Upwards) and stars Greta Gerwig as a New Yorker woman who gets dumped by her fiancé a few weeks before their wedding. With the help of her friends, she embarks on a series of unexpected encounters in an attempt to find her place in the world as a single woman approaching 30. Joel Kinnaman, Zoe Lister-Jones, Hamish Linklater, Bill Pullman and Debra Winger are co-starring in the film co-written by Wein and Lister-Jones. Michael London (Sideways, The Illusionist), Janice Williams and Jocelyn Hayes-Simpson (An American Crime) are producing the Groundswell Productions film.
