Roque Banos has signed on to score the upcoming remake of the horror comedy Evil Dead. The film is written and directed by Fede Alvarez and stars Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore. The movie is a reinvention of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic about a group of teens who holed up in a remote cabin and discover a Book of the Dead that unleashes demons they cannot control. Raimi is producing the remake with Rob Tapert (Drag me to Hell, The Grudge) and Bruce Campbell through his Ghost House Pictures company. Screamworks Records has recently released a couple of new soundtrack albums. Among the label’s new titles is the horror thriller Spiders 3D. The soundtrack features the film’s original music composed by Joseph Conlan (Toolbox Murders, NCIS). The album is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also check out audio clips. Spiders 3D is directed by Tibor Takacs and stars William Hope, Christa Campbell, Patrick Muldoon, Sydney Sweeney, Shelly Varod and Lincoln Frager. In the movie, a new species of giant spiders is discovered that wreak havoc on New York City following the crash of an old Soviet space station into a subway tunnel. James Horner is currently scoring Carlo Carlei’s upcoming film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. The film stars Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld in the title roles. The movie’s cast also includes Damian Lewis as Lord Capulet, Natascha McElhone as Lady Capulet, Lesley Manville as the Nurse and Ed Westwick as Tybalt. Other actors include Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick & Kodi Smit-McPhee as the lovers’ cousins, Tybalt and Benvolio and Stellan Skarsgard as Prince of Verona. Academy Award-winning writer Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, Downton Abbey) has penned the screenplay based on William Shakespeare’s play and is also producing the Amber Entertainment production with Ileen Maisel (Ripley’s Game) and Lawrence Elman. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the Spanish thriller Invader (Invasor). The album features the film’s original score composed by Lucas Vidal (The Raven, The Cold Light of Day). Invader is directed by Daniel Calparsoro and stars Alberto Amman (Cell 211), Antonio de la Torre (The Last Circus) and Karra Elejalde (Biutiful). ‘Skyfall’ Recording Sessions

Sony Pictures Belgium has published a short video from the recording sessions of the score for the latest James Bond film Skyfall. The video features footage of the film’s composer Thomas Newman conducting the orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London, as well as the composer talking about his first score for the Bond series. Nathan Wang to Score ‘My Lucky Star’

Nathan Wang has been tapped to score the Chinese-language romantic comedy My Lucky Star. The film is a prequel to the 2009 Chinese blockbuster Sophie’s Revenge and stars Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs of a Geisha) and singer Wang Leehom. Dennie Gordon (New York Minute, What a Girl Wants) is directing the movie. The movie is the first Chinese market production to be directed by an American woman. Ziyi is producing the film with Ling Lucas, Beaver Kwei, Second Chan and William Cheng. The Bona Entertainment production takes place in Beijing, Singapore to Hong Kong and Macau. Complete ‘Star Trek: Generations’ Soundtrack Announced

GNP Crescendo has announced the world premiere release of the complete score for Star Trek: Generations. The music is composed by Dennis McCarthy (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation and Voyager). The 2-CD set features the complete film score on disc one (including music for one scene deleted from the finished film), and a remastered version of the 1994 soundtrack album on the second disc. Menahan Street Band. Also included is one track from the film’s score composed by Hrishikesh Hirway. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 6, 2012 and physically on November 20. A couple of new TV shows are premiering this week:
Premiering on October 16 is the CW drama Emily Owens, M.D. created by Jennie Snyder Urman (Something Borrowed) and starring Mamie Gummer, Justin Hartley, Michael Rady, Aja Naomi King, Kelly McCreary and Necar Zadegan. The show’s score is composed by Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, When a Stranger Calls). The series follows a newly minted doctor looking for a fresh start in the adult professional world, who discovers that life at the hospital where she works is no different than high school.
