Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for Richard Linklater’s indie comedy drama Bernie. The album features the film’s original score composed by Graham Reynolds (A Scanner Darkly), as well as a number of songs performed by lead actor Jack Black. Also included are songs by Dale Watson, Heybale!, Mitote and Miss Leslie. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 15, 2012 and physically on June 12. The CD version is available for pre-order on Amazon. Bernie stars Black as a mortician in a small-town in Texas who strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow. Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey are co-starring. The film opened last weekend in select cities and had the highest per-screen average on the weekend box office. ‘Lola Versus’ Soundtrack Announced

Lakeshore Records has revealed the details for the soundtrack album of the indie comedy Lola Versus. The album features the film’s songs by artists including Big Troubles, The Ettes, Vex Rufflin, Dan Deacon, Seapony, The Fruhstucks, Class Actress and Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, as well as one track from the score by Fall On Your Sword. The soundtrack will be released digitally on May 29, 2012 followed by a physical release on June 12.  As reported earlier this week, the label is also releasing a  separate score album featuring Fall On Your Sword’s original music from the film. Lola Versus is directed by Daryl Wein and stars Greta Gerwig, Joel Kinnaman, Zoe Lister-Jones, Hamish Linklater, Bill Pullman and Debra Winger. Capitol Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the upcoming ensemble comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting. The album features the songs featured in the film by artists including Chiddy Bang, The Human League, Kinky, Sleeper Agent, Black Lips, Robert Palmer and David Gray. The soundtrack will be released on digitally on May 15, 2012 and physically on May 22. The CD version is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Blake Neely is set to score USA’s upcoming mini-series Political Animals. The series stars Sigourney Weaver as a divorced former First Lady and the current Secretary of State who struggles to keep her family together while simultaneously dealing with the crises of the State Department. Ellen Burstyn, Carla Gugino, James Wolk, Adrian Pasar, Roger Bart, Dan Futterman and Ciaran Hinds are co-starring. The project reunites the composer with frequent collaborator Greg Berlanti who is executive producing the drama, as well as writing and directing the first episode. Neely and Berlanti have previously worked together on TV shows including Everwood, No Ordinary Heroes and Brothers & Sisters, as well as the feature film Life as We Know It. The track list of the soundtrack release for Wes Anderson’s comedy drama Moonrise Kingdom has been revealed. The album features five tracks from the film’s original score composed by Alexandre Desplat, as well as music by Leonard Bernstein, Benjamin Britten, Hank Williams, Françoise Hardy and Peter Jarvis. The soundtrack will be released on May 22, 2012 by ABKCO Records and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out below. Pale Blue Records has released a soundtrack album for the Jason Statham-starring thriller Safe. The album features the film’s original score composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (21 Jump Street, The Royal Tenenbaums). The digital-only release is available to download on Amazon. Walt Disney Records will be releasing the official soundtrack album for Pixar’s upcoming animated film Brave. The album features the original score from the movie composed by Patrick Doyle (Thor, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Sense and Sensibility), as well as songs from Scottish Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis and a collaboration between Grammy Award-winning folk rock band Mumford and Sons who penned Learn Me Right sung by Birdy. Dustin O’Halloran is reuniting with director Drake Doremus on his upcoming, currently untitled indie drama. They have previously worked together on last year’s Sundance hit Like Crazy starring Felicity Jones, Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence. Doremus’ new film stars Guy Pearce as a high school teacher who is tempted to cheat on his wife with one of his students. Felicity Jones, Amy Ryan, Mackenzie Davis and Nico Tortorella are co-starring. Doremus has co-written the screenplay with his Like Crazy writing partner Ben York Jones. Jonathan Schwartz (Douchebag, Like Crazy) and Andrea Sperling (Harsh Times) are producing through Super Crispy Entertainment and Steven Rales and Mark Roybal (Doubt, Shaft) are producing for Indian Paintbrush. Joel Goldsmith (1957-2012)

Joel Goldsmith has passed away at age 54. The composer was born on November 19, 1957. Throughout his career, he received three Emmy Award nominations for his music for the sci-fi hit shows Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, including a nod for the latter series’ main titles. His most prominent feature credit as a composer was the 1996 sci-fi movie Star Trek: First Contact, on which he collaborated with his father Jerry Goldsmith and which recently received an expanded CD release. His other feature film credits include Roland Emmerich’s Moon 44, the fantasy adventure Kull the Conqueror starring Kevin Sorbo and the Kirk Douglas-starring comedy Diamonds.
