‘Weeds’ Season 8 Soundtrack Released

weedsLionsgate Records has released a new soundtrack album for the Showtime hit series Weeds. The album features songs from the eighth and final season of the show by artists including Family of the Year, The Nervous Wreckords, Winterpills, Charlie Mars, Walter Spencer, Shivaree, The Steamboat Cabaret and Rilo Kiley. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. The album marks fifth soundtrack release for the series. Weeds is created by Jenji Kohan and stars Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins, Tonye Patano, Romany Malco, Indigo and Hunter Parrish. passionQuartet Records has announced a soundtrack album for Brian De Palma’s upcoming thriller Passion. The album features the film’s original score composed by Pino Donaggio who has previously collaborated with the director on such films as Body Double, Dressed to Kill, Carrie, Blow Out and Home Videos. The soundtrack will be released on March 21, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips are available on the label’s official website and more clips can be checked out below. Passion is a remake of the French psychodrama Love Crime (Crime d’amour) and stars Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace. The film premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival and will be released in France later this week. the-walking-deadRepublic Records will release a soundtrack album for the AMC hit series The Walking Dead. The album features a remix of the main titles theme of the show composed by Bear McCreary, as well as several songs used in the third season of the zombie series by artists including Jamie N Commons, Voxhaul Broadcast, Baby Bee, Emily Kinney and Lauren Cohan, Delta Spirit, Of Monsters and Men and Fink. The soundtrack will be released on March 19, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Walking Dead currently airs every Sunday night on AMC. escape-from-planet-earthSony Classical has released a soundtrack album for the animated feature Escape from Planet Earth. The album features the film’s original music composed by Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, Bridge to Terabithia). The composer recorded his score with a 100 piece orchestra and choir at Abbey Road Studios in London. The soundtrack has recently been released digitally and is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Escape from Planet Earth is directed by Cal Brunker and features the voice talent of Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Rob Corddry, James Gandolfini and Craig Robinson. The film is set on the planet Baab, where admired astronaut Scorch Supernova is a national hero to the blue alien population. grammysTrent Reznor and Atticus Ross have won the Grammy Award in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category for their music for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo starring Rooney Mara. The other nominated composers in the category included John Williams (The Adventures of Tintin), Ludovic Bource (The Artist), Howard Shore (Hugo), Hans Zimmer (The Dark Knight Rises) and Austin Wintory (Journey). In the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media, T Bone Burnett, Taylor Swift, John Paul White & Joy Williams were honored for the original song Safe & Sound performed by Swift & The Civil Wars from the hit movie The Hunger Games. Thomas Newman Wins BAFTA for ‘Skyfall’

baftaThomas Newman has received his second BAFTA for his score for the latest James Bond film Skyfall directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig in the Original Music category. Newman accepted the award in person at the awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House in London. He was nominated alongside Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina), Alexandre Desplat (Argo), Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and John Williams (Lincoln). The composer has previously received the award for his music for American Beauty in 2000, his first collaboration with Mendes. Newman is also up for an Academy Award for his Skyfall score.

jack-the-giant-slayerThe details of the soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s fantasy adventure Jack the Giant Slayer have been revealed. The album features the film’s music composed by John Ottman (X2, Superman Returns, The Usual Suspects, The Fantastic Four) who is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 26, 2013 by WaterTower Music and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Jack the Giant Slayer starring Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy and Ewan McGregor is set to be released on March 1 by Warner Bros. Pictures. iZLER has been tapped to score the upcoming indie drama Growing Up and Other Lies. The film is directed by Danny Jacobs and Darren Grodsky and stars Adam Brody, Wyatt Cenac, Amber Tamblyn, Josh Lawson, Lauren Miller and Jacobs himself. The movie follows a 30-year-old man who recruits his three oldest friends to help him retrace their greatest adventure: walking the entire, 260-block length of the island of Manhattan in one day. Nicole Lederman, Katie Mustard and Jason Weiss are producing the project. iZLER has previously scored Jacobs’ and 2008 feature Humboldt County. Growing Up and Other Lies was shot on location in New York City this past fall and is expected to premiere later this year. Read the rest of this entry »

Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

identity-thiefExpected to top the weekend box office is the crime comedy Identity Thief directed by Seth Gordon and starring Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy, Jon Favreau, Amanda Peet, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Morris Chestnut, John Cho, Robert Patrick and Eric Stonestreet. The film’s music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Horrible Bosses, NBC’s Revolution). A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a cover of James Brown’s The Payback performed by Amanda Brown and a song by Ty Taylor has been released digitally earlier this week on Back Lot Music. side-effectsAlso opening wide is the psychological thriller Side Effects directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Thomas Newman has composed his third score for the director following Erin Brockovich and The Good German. A soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music is now available digitally and will be released in March on CD by Varese Sarabande. In addition to writing the orchestral score, Ottman also is also the film’s editor and associate producer. The soundtrack is expected to be released on February 26, 2013.
