Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the horror thriller Carrie
directed by Kimberly Peirce and starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Gabriella Wilde, Alex Russell and Ansel Elgort. Columbia Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film by artists including Rogue Wave, Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, The Naked and Famous and The Civil Wars. Check our our previous article for the full details. The movie’s original score is composed by Marco Beltrami (I, Robot, Live Free or Die Hard, The Wolverine). Also opening wide this week is the WikiLeaks drama The Fifth Estate directed by Bill Condon and starringBenedict Cumberbatch, Daniel Brühl, Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, Stanley Tucci, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten. The film’s original score is composed by Carter Burwell (Fargo, Twilight, Being John Malkovich). Lakeshore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the songs from the film by Amon Tobin, Yppah, Tame Impala and Emika. The details of the soundtrack album for Steve McQueen’s historical drama 12 Years a Slave have been announced. The album features selections from the film’s original score composed by Hans Zimmer, as well as original recordings from John Legend (who serves as the soundtrack’s producer), Alicia Keys (who performs Queen of the Field (Patsey’s Song) and Alabama Shakes (performing Driva Man). Also included on the release is the track Roll Jordan Roll performed by the film’s cast. Other songs featured on the album Freight Train by Gary Clark Jr. and Misery Chain performed by Chris Cornell and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams. Also featured are the film’s waltzes, spirituals and field songs composed and arranged by Nicholas Britell. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 5, 2013 by Columbia Records. Hollywood Records will release a soundtrack album for the superhero film sequel Thor: The Dark World. The album features the movie’s original score composed by Brian Tyler (Iron Man 3, Fast Five, Now You See Me). The soundtrack will be released digitally overseas on October 28, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Mark Mothersbaugh has signed on to score the upcoming comedy sequel 22 Jump Street. The film is once again directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and stars Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill & Ice Cube who reprise their roles from the 2012 original film. They are joined by new cast members Craig Roberts, Amber Stevens and Wyatt Russell. The movie follows officers Schmidt and Jenko as they go deep undercover at a local college pretending to be college students. Michael Bacall (Project X, Scott Pilgrim vs the World) and Oren Uziel have written the screenplay. Tatum and Hill are also producing the project with Neal H. Moritz (The Fast and the Furious series, I Am Legend). Mothersbaugh previously scored the original film, which went on to gross more than $200 Mio. at the worldwide box office in 2012.
Relativity Music Group will release the official soundtrack album for the animated feature Free Birds. The album features the film’s original music composed by Dominic Lewis. Also included are two original songs recorded for the film, including a cover of Creedence Clearwater’s Up Around the Bend by Social Distortion and Back in Time by MattyBRaps. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 28, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Pierre Adenot is composing the score for Christophe Gans’ upcoming film adaptation of Beauty and the Beast (La Belle et la Bete). The French language film stars Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux. Gans has also written the screenplay based on one of the earliest published variants of the classic fairy tale, included in Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve’s 1740′s collection Jeune Ameriquaine et les Contes Marins. André Dussollier is co-starring. Richard Grandpierre (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Zulu) is producing the project for Eskwad, along Pathe Production. Gans’ previous films featured music by Jeff Danna & Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill), Joseph LoDuca (Brotherhood of the Wolf) and Patrick O’Hearn (Crying Freeman).
Canderblinks will release a soundtrack album for the biographical drama Diana. The album features the film’s original music composed by David Holmes (Ocean’s Eleven, Out of Sight, Analyze That) and Keefus Ciancia (Nashville). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 28, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on
Relativity Music Group will release the official soundtrack album for the drama Dallas Buyers Club. The album features music from and inspired by the film, including songs by Jared Leto’s band Thirty Seconds to Mars, Tegan and Sara, AWOLNATION, The Naked and the Famous, T. Rex, My Morning Jacket, Fitz and the Tantrums, Blondfire, Neon Trees, Cold War Kids, Capital Cities, The Airborne Toxic Event and more. Junkie XL is currently working on the score for the upcoming post-apocalyptic action film Mad Max: Fury Road. The film is directed by George Miller (Happy Feet, The Witches of Eastwick) and stars Tom Hardy in the title role of Max Rockatansky, alongside Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, supermodel Abbey Lee Kershaw, Courtney Eaton, Josh Helman, Jennifer Hagan and singer/songwriter iOTA. The fourth installment in the series follows Mad Max as he is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator, which leads to Road War. Miller has also co-written the screenplay with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris.
