Ed Sheeran has written and recorded the end credits song I See Fire for Peter Jackson’s upcoming fantasy adventure sequel The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The Grammy-nominated and BRIT Award and Ivor Novello Award-winning British singer/songwriter announced his involvement on his Twitter page today. Sheeran plays all the instruments on the track apart from the cello. I See Fire will be released as a single tomorrow, November 5 on iTunes (link will be added later tonight). WaterTower Music will release the official soundtrack album featuring the song, as well as the film’s original score composed by Howard Shore in two different versions on December 10, 2013. Christopher Young has composed the score for the upcoming comedy Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas. The film is written and directed by Perry who also stars in the film alongside Chad Michael Murray, Larry the Cable Guy, Eric Lively, Alicia Witt, Anna Maria Horsford, Tika Sumpter, Eric Lively, Lisa Whelchel, JR Lemon and Kathy Najimy. The movie follows Madea as she gets talked into helping a friend pay her daughter a surprise visit in the country for Christmas. Perry is also producing the film with Ozzie Areu (House of Payne, Good Deeds) and Matt Moore. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas will be released on December 13, 2013 by Lionsgate. Soundtrack for NBC’s ‘The Sound of Music’ Live Broadcast Announced

Sony Masterworks has announced a soundtrack release for NBC’s live broadcast of the classic stage musical The Sound of Music. The album features the studio recordings of all the musical numbers performed in the live broadcast, including such songs as The Sound of Music, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, all of which are composed by Richard Rodgers and feature lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The soundtrack will be released on December 3, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. NBC’s The Sound of Music is a three-hour live production based on the classic Tony Award-winning musical and stars Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Stephen Moyer as Capt. Georg von Trapp, Christian Borle as Max Detweiler and Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader. As no new major scripted TV shows or movies are premiering this week, we are taking a look at a number of shows with new composers this season.
W.G. Snuffy Walden (Friday Night Lights, The West Wing, Under the Dome) has taken over scoring duties this season on ABC’s drama Nashville created by Callie Khouri and starring Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen, Powers Boothe and Sam Palladio. The show’s first season was scored by T Bone Burnett and Keefus Ciancia. Buddy Miller has replaced Burnett as the show’s executive music producer. ‘Call the Midwife’ – The Christmas Album Details

DMG TV will release a new soundtrack album for the BBC original series Call the Midwife. The Christmas Album features music from the show’s 2012 and 2013 Christmas specials, including a cast recording of the Nat ‘King’ Cole classic song When I Fall in Love performed by Laura Main and Stephen McGann, as well as tracks by Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Harry Belafonte, Elvis Presley, Perry Como, Brenda Lee and Johnny Mathis with Percy Faith and His Orchestra Also included are selections from the series’ score composed by Peter Salem. Mark Kilian to Score ‘Revenge of the Green Dragons’

Mark Kilian has been hired to score the upcoming action crime thriller Revenge of the Green Dragons. The film is directed by Andrew Lau (Infernal Affairs series, Initial D – Drift Racer) and Andrew Loo and stars Ray Liotta, Justin Chon, Harry Shum Jr., Kevin Wu and Billy Magnussen. The movie is set in New York and follows two immigrants fighting their way up the Green Dragons gang, and then their struggle to confront their former associates after one of them is cast beyond the pale for his trysts with his clan chieftain. Michael Di Jiacomo has written the film’s screenplay. Stuart Ford & Allen Bain are producing the project for IM Global, as well as Ara Katz (Diary of the Dead) and Jesse Scolaro. Martin Scorsese who directed the Academy Award-winning thriller The Departed based on Lau’s Infernal Affairs serves as an executive producer. Read the rest of this entry »

Three new movies are opening wide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is the film adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s sci-fi novel Ender’s Game directed by Gavin Hood and starring Asa Butterfield, Hailee Steinfeld, Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford. Steve Jablonsky (Transformers series, Battleship) has composed the film’s original score. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. The film’s original music is composed by Dominic Lewis. Dave Porter has taken over scoring duties on the NBC hit drama The Blacklist. The show is created by Jon Blokenkamp and stars James Spader, Megan Boone, Diego Klattenhoff, Ryan Eggold, Harry Lennix and Parminder Nagra. The series follows an ex-government agent on the FBI’s most wanted list who surrenders with an offer to catch the most wanted terrorists. Bokenkamp (Taking Lives) is also executive producing the Davis Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television production with John Eisendrath (Alias, Felicity), John Davis (Predator, I, Robot, Waterworld), John Fox (Ironside) and Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, Narc). Entertainment One will release a soundtrack album for the comedy Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain. The album features the songs from the film by artists including Erick Sermon, Snoop Dogg & Method Man, Lou Armstrong, American Antagonist, Lisette Love, Driicky Graham, Maino and The Mafia, Krayzie Bone, Sean Hines, Finatticz and Doeshun. Terence Blanchard has been tapped to score the upcoming drama Little Rootie Tootie. The film is written and directed by Dan Algrant (Naked in New York, Greetings From Tim Buckley) and is set to star Christopher Walken and Lenny Kravitz. The movie follows a veteran jazz pianist who is mourning the death of his wife. His son returns home with his own wife, disrupting the couple’s careers as musicians in Europe to deal with his father as his behavior becomes manic and destructive. Algrant is producing the project with Fred Zollo (Mississippi Burning, The Paper) for A to Z Productions, along with River Bend Pictures’ Stan Erdreich and Paul Condoleon for Dalifey Ltd.
