Inside ‘The Matrix Live’ Documentary

matrix-liveLaser Hotline has published a new documentary on the music of The Matrix. The 50-minute film focuses on composer Don Davis and his involvement with The Matrix Live, a live to picture concert, which the composer last conducted on May 17, 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany. The composer talks about his musical background, his influences, how he first met the Wachowski siblings on the thriller Bound and his experience working on the original The Matrix in 1998 and 1999. mark-bradshawMark Bradshaw has been hired to score the upcoming historical drama Testament of Youth. The film is directed by James Kent (The Thirteenth Tale, The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister) and stars Alicia Vikander, Kit Harrington, Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Joanna Scanlan, Hayley Atwell, Jonathan Bailey, Alexandra Roach and Anna Chancellor. The BBC Films production is based on the autobiography of Vera Brittain and tells the story of the British writer and pacifist who postponed her studies at Oxford University during World War I to serve as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse in London, Malta and France. bird-peopleCristal Records has released a soundtrack album for the French drama Bird People. The album features the film’s original music composed by Béatrice Thiriet (Lady Chatterley). Also included is David Bowie’s Space Oddity and Feist’s Anti Pioneer. The soundtrack was released earlier this week in France. No word yet on a release in the U.S. Click here to listen to audio clips. Bird People is directed by Pascale Ferran and stars Josh Charles, Anais Demoustier, Roschdy Zem, Camelia Jordana, Geoffrey Cantor, Clark Johnson, Taklyt Vongdara, Radha Mitchell and Mathieu Amalric. The movie follows an American businessman who arrives at Paris’ Charles De Gaulle airport and checks into a local hotel, turns off his cell and laptop and starts a new life. The drama just premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was released in France this past Wednesday. dominionChristopher Young has composed the music for the pilot of the new Syfy original series Dominion. Jeff Rona is currently scoring the other episodes of the first season of the show created by Scott Stewart and starring Christopher Egan, Tom Wisdom, Roxanne McKee, Alan Dale, Anthony Stewart Head and Luke Allen-Gale. The supernatural action drama is based on characters from Stewart’s 2010 film Legion and is set 25 years after the events of the movie and picking up in the aftermath of a catastrophic war between an army of angels and mankind that has transformed the world. coming-homeSony Classical will release a soundtrack album for  Zhang Yimou’s romantic drama Coming Home. The album features the film’s original music composed by Qigang Chen who previously scored the director’s features The Flowers of War and Under the Hawthorne Tree. The music was recorded with the China Philharmonic Orchestra and features piano solos by Lang Lang. The soundtrack will be released overseas on June 13, 2014. No word yet on a domestic release date. Check out audio clips after the jump. Coming Home directed by Yimou (HeroHouse of Flying Daggers) stars Chen Daoming, Gong Li, Zhang Huiwen, Guo Tao, Liu Peiqi, Zu Feng and Yan Ni. The movie inspired by Yan Geling’s The Criminal Yu Yanshi chronicles the journey of a Chinese dissident from the 1920′s to the 1990′s. The drama recently world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. hans-zimmerHans Zimmer has been tapped to compose the title theme for History’s upcoming mini-series Sons of Liberty. The show is created by Stephen David (The Men Who Built America, The World Wars) & David C. White and stars Ben Barnes, Henry Thomas, Michael Raymond James, Rafe Spall, Ryan Eggold, Marton Csokas, Emily Berrington and Dean Norris. The series follows a defiant and radical group of young men –  John Adams, Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock and Joseph Warren – as they band together in secrecy to change the course of history and make America a nation. Kari Skogland (Boardwalk Empire) is directing the six-parter and David is also executive producing the project with Matthew Gross (Across the UniverseBody of Proof), Russ McCarroll and Elaine Frontain Bryant. macbethJed Kurzel is currently scoring the upcoming drama Macbeth. The film is directed by the composer’s brother, Justin Kurzel, and stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cottilard, Sean Harris, Elizabeth Debicki, Paddy Considine and David Thewlis. The movie is based on the play by William Shakespeare and follows General Macbeth whose ambitious wife urges him to use wicked means in order to gain power of the throne over the sitting king. Jacob Koskoff & Todd Louiso (The Marc Pease Experiment) have written the screenplay. altered-statesLa-La Land Records has announced a remastered re-issue of the soundtrack for the 1980 drama Altered States directed by Ken Russell and starring William Hurt, Blair Brown and Bob Balaban. The album features the film’s original music composed by John Corigliano (The Red Violin, Revolution) who received his first Academy Award nomination for his score. The soundtrack for the Warner Bros. Pictures production is limited to 2500 copies. walk-of-shameLakeshore Records will release a third soundtrack album for the comedy Walk of Shame. The album features more songs from the film by Black Mob Group, Lana Shea, Mia Koo Sebastian Robertson & Kill The Computer and Stuart Davis. The soundtrack will be released digitally on June 10, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips below. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring songs from the movie, as well as an album featuring composer John Debney’s original score. jersey-boysRhino Records will release the official soundtrack album for Clint Eastwood’s movie adaptation of Jersey Boys. The album features the songs from the film and the Broadway musical written by Bob Gaudio and featuring lyrics by Bob Crewe, including Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like a Man, Dawn, Rag Doll, Bye Bye Baby and Who Loves You. Also included are original recordings by Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons. The soundtrack will be released on June 24, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Jersey Boys based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical stars John Lloyd Young, Erich Bergen, Michael Lomenda, Vincent Piazza and Christopher Walken. The movie follows four young men from the wrong side of the tracks in New Jersey who came together to form the iconic 1960s rock group The Four Seasons.
