World Soundtrack Awards 2015 Nominations Announced

The World Soundtrack Academy has announced the nominees for the 2015 World Soundtrack Awards to be presented in three categories: Film Composer of the Year, Best Original Score of the Year and Best Original Song Written Directly for a Film. The winners will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards & concert on Saturday, October 24, the closing night of the Ghent International Film Festival. Here are the nominations:

Ramin Djawadi to Score ‘The Great Wall’

Ramin Djawadi has signed on to score the upcoming fantasy epic The Great Wall. The film marks the English language debut of director Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers, Hero) and stars Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Andy Lau, Zhang Hanyu and Eddie Peng. The movie tells the story of an elite force making a last stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. Thomas Tull (Godzilla, 300: Rise of an Empire, 42) is producing the Legendary Pictures and Atlas Entertainment production with Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, American Hustle), Jon Jashni (Crimson Peak) and Peter Loehr. ‘Zipper’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the thriller Zipper. The album features the film’s original music composed by H. Scott Salinas (The Square, Cartel Land, Murder in the First). The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 28, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Zipper is directed by Mora Stephens and stars Patrick Wilson, Lena Headey, John Cho, Dianna Agron, Ray Winstone and Richard Dreyfuss. The movie follows a federal prosecutor on the fast track to political success who risks his promising career and family life to indulge the ever-obsessive impulses of his secret addiction to escorts. Expanded ‘The Secret of NIMH’ Soundtrack Announced

Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1982 animated feature The Secret of NIMH directed by Don Bluth and featuring the voices of Elizabeth Hartman, Dom DeLuise, Derek Jacobi, Hermione Baddeley, Peter Strauss and John Carradine. The album features the film’s expanded original score composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Patton, Chinatown) who recorded his music with the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ambrosian Singers, including previously unreleased music and three demo recordings feat. ‘Orange Is the New Black’ Seasons 2 & 3 Soundtrack Announced

Universal Music will release a new soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black. The album features a selections of songs from the show’s second and third season by artists including 50 Cent, Ike & Tina Turner, Foreigner, The Dead Milkmen, Atmosphere, Eliza Noxon, Sharon Clark, Martha Wainwright, Deep Blue Something & more. The soundtrack will be released digitally on August 21, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring the songs from the first season and Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack featuring the show’s original score. Orange Is the New Black is created by Jenji Kohan and stars Taylor Schilling as an engaged Brooklynite whose wild past comes back to haunt her and results in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. Michael Brook is composing the music for the upcoming indie drama About Ray. The film is directed by Gaby Dellal (Angels Crest, On a Clear Day) and stars Naomi Watts, Elle Fanning, Susan Sarandon, Tate Donovan, Sam Trammell and Linda Emond. The movie centers on a New York teenager seeking to transition from female to male and the relationship with her single mother who is coming to terms with having to raise her only daughter as a son. Dellal has also co-written the screenplay with Nikole Beckwith (Stockholm, Pennsylvania) and is also producing the project with Marc Turtletaub & Peter Saraf (Little Miss Sunshine, Away We Go, Safety Not Guaranteed) and Dorothy Berwin. ‘Hitman: Agent 47’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Hitman: Agent 47 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Marco Beltrami (Scream, The Wolverine, World War Z, 3:10 to Yuma). The soundtrack will be released physically next week on La-La Land Records’ website and is also available for pre-order on Amazon. Hitman: Agent 47 is directed by Aleksander Bach and stars Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciarán Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann. The movie based on the Hitman video game series centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. Harald Kloser and Thomas Wander have been hired to score the upcoming sci-fi action adventure Independence Day: Resurgence. The film is directed by Roland Emmerich and stars Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Judd Hirsch, Sela Ward, William Fichtner and Charlotte Gainsbourg. The sequel revolves around the nations of Earth who have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet, which comes under attack by the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Shakira to Record Original Song for Disney’s ‘Zootopia’

Disney announced at the studios’ D23 expo event that Shakira is recording an original song for the Disney Animation Studios’ feature Zootopia. The song is entitled Try Everthing and will be featured in the movie directed by Byron Howard (Tangled) and Rich Moore (Wreck-it Ralph). Shakira will also be among the film’s voice cast, which also includes Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin.
