Joseph Bishara has been tapped to score the upcoming horror prequel Insidious: Chapter 3. The film marks the directorial debut of writer/actor Leigh Whannell (Saw) who scripted the previous two movies in the series. The movie stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Lin Shaye, Steve Coulter, Angus Sampson, Hayley Kiyoko, Ashton Moio, as well as Whannell himself. The film is set before the haunting of the Lambert family and reveals how Elise Rainier reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity. James Wan (The Conjuring, Furious 7) who directed the first two installments is producing the project with Jason Blum (Whiplash, The Purge) for Blumhouse Productions and Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity). Bruce Broughton’s ‘The Presidio’ Score Released

Intrada Records has announced the world premiere commercial soundtrack release for the 1988 crime thriler The Presidio directed by Peter Hyams and starring Sean Connery, Mark Harmon and Meg Ryan. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Bruce Broughton (Silverado, Tombstone, Young Sherlock Holmes, Lost in Space). The soundtrack for the Paramount Pictures production includes the complete score, as well as several alternate cues. Matthew Margeson is scoring the upcoming horror comedy Scouts vs. Zombies. ‘Into the Woods’ Soundtrack Details

The details have been revealed of the soundtrack albums for the film adaptation of the musical Into the Woods. Walt Disney Records will release a regular and deluxe edition soundtrack featuring the songs from the film composed by Stephen Sondheim. Both albums will be released on December 16, 2014. The regular edition is available for pre-order on Amazon and the deluxe edition can be pre-ordered here. Into the Woods is directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski and Johnny Depp. The musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel. Premiering tonight in the U.S. is the second part of the Worricker trilogy, Turks & Caicos directed by David Hare and starring Bill Nighy as MI5 spy Johnny Worricker, alongside Christopher Walken, Winona Ryder, Helena Bonham Carter and Ralph Fiennes. The film’s original music is composed by Paul Englishby (An Englishby, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) who previously scored Hare’s Page Eight. The composer also scored the final part in the trilogy, Salting the Battlefield. ‘Rosewater’ Soundtrack Details

Howe Records will release a soundtrack album for Jon Stewart’s drama Rosewater. The album features the film’s original music composed by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings, The Aviator, The Silence of the Lambs). Also included are tracks by Leonard Cohen, as well as Persian musicians Mahdyar Aghajani and 25 Band. The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 11, 2014 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. A CD version is set to be released on December 9 and can be pre-ordered here. The movie is based on the New York Times best-selling memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity, and Survival by BBC journalist Maziar Bahari and tells the story of Bahari’s imprisonment in Tehran in 2009 and his interrogation at the hands of a man he knew only as Rosewater. Mica Levi Wins European Film Award for ‘Under the Skin’

Mica Levi has been named European Composer 2014 by the European Film Academy for her score to Jonathan Glazer’s Under the Skin starring Scarlett Johansson. For the second time in the history of the awards, a winner in the music category (as well as 5 other categories) has been announced before the awards ceremony following a decision of the Academy Board to draw more attention to the awards recipients in these categories. Levi who is best known as a singer/songwriter for her band Micachu & The Shapes has made her film scoring debut on the film. ‘Song of the Sea’ Soundtrack Details

Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature Song of the Sea. The album features the film’s original music composed by Bruno Coulais (Coraline, The Chorus) who previously scored the director’s Academy Award-nominated feature The Secret of Kells. The composer collaborated with Kila on the score. Also featured are the songs from the movie by Nolwenn Leroy. Two new movies are opening this weekend:
Already playing in select theaters since this past Wednesday and opening nationwide today is the sci-fi drama Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine. The film’s original music is composed by Hans Zimmer (Inception, The Dark Knight, The Lion King, Gladiator). WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in two different editions on November 18. Check out our previous news article for the full album details. ‘Supernatural’ Musical Episode ‘Fan Fiction’ to Feature Songs by Christopher Lennertz & Jay Gruska

Christopher Lennertz and Jay Gruska have composed the original songs for the 200th episode of The CW hit series Supernatural. The special musical episode entitled Fan Fiction follows Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) as they investigate the disappearance of a high school teacher and are stunned to discover that the school is putting on a musical based on their lives. One of the show’s writers Robert Thompson wrote the lyrics to accompany the composers’ music. Original songs include The Boys Investigate, Supernatural, A Single Man Tear, The Road So Far, I’ll Just Wait Here Then, and an a cappella version of Carry on My Wayward Son.
