Skydance Productions and Paramount Pictures will release the official soundtrack album for Terminator Genisys. The album features the film’s original music composed by Lorne Balfe (Home, Penguins of Madagascar, The Dilemma, Megamind). Hans Zimmer serves as the executive music producer. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon and will be released on iTunes on June 30. Check out audio samples after the jump. Terminator Genisys is directed by Alan Taylor and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Matt Smith, Byung-Hun Lee and JK Simmons. Sony Classical will release a soundtrack album for Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut. The album features the original score from the new cut of last year’s hit film composed by John Ottman (The Usual Suspects, X2, Valkyrie, Superman Returns, The Fantastic Four), including new music which the composer recorded specifically for the new edition. The soundtrack will be released on July 10, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released the original soundtrack for the film last year. X-Men: Days of Future Past stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. The album features the film’s original score composed by Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Minions, The Smurfs, Beverly Hills Chihuahua) who previously scored the second part in the series. John Debney Conducts ‘Passion of the Christ Oratorio’ at 57th Smetana’s Litomysl Festival

This past Sunday, June 21, Academy Award-nominated composer John Debney‘s Passion of the Christ Oratorio had its Czech premiere at the 57th Smetana’s Litomysl Festival. The concert was held in the Litomysl Castle’s courtyard, was attended by over 1,200 people and concluded their evening with five curtain calls. Michal Kortyš, the mayor of Litomysl was also in attendance along with several other dignitaries. Debney conducted the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra himself. Special guest included vocalists, soprano Alžběta Poláčková, mezzosoprano Lisbeth Scott, and tenor Aleš Briscein, as well as world renowned flautist, Pedro Eustache. Read the rest of this entry »

Jeremy Zuckerman is composing the score for the new MTV original series Scream. The show is based on Wes Craven’s horror franchise and stars Bella Thorne, Willa Fitzgerald, Amy Forsyth, John Karna, Carlson Young, Amadeus Serafini, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Amadeus Serafini, Connor Weil, Tracy Middendorf and Jason Wiles. The show follows a gorgeous entitled teen at Lakewood High School who is killed in an apparent crime of passion, following her boyfriend’s murder, which exposes the inner workings of the community’s complex social hierarchy. Chris Hajian has been tapped to score the upcoming crime thriller Infiltrator. The film is directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, Runner Runner) and stars Bryan Cranston, Diane Kruger, John Leguizamo, Benjamin Bratt and Amy Ryan. The movie is based on the true story of undercover agent Robert Mazur, who became a pivotal player for drug lords in the 1980s, cleaning their dirty cash. Ellen Brown Furman wrote the screenplay. James Horner (1953-2015)

James Horner died this morning in a plane crash about 60 miles north of Santa Barbara, CA. The composer who was a recreational pilot was reportedly the only person on board. Horner was one of Hollywood’s most in demand film composers and has composed the music for the two highest-grossing films in history, Titanic and Avatar. He received two Academy Awards for his work on James Cameron’s Titanic and earned eight more Oscar nominations for such movies as Aliens, An American Tail, Field of Dreams, Braveheart, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, House of Sand and Fog and Avatar. He already completed scores for the upcoming dramas Southpaw and The 33 and recently also composed his first music for the concert hall in several decades. Read the rest of this entry »

Varese Sarabande has announced the latest releases in their CD Club series. Among the titles is a deluxe edition soundtrack for the 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch directed by Joe Dante and starring Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates. The album features the expanded original score from the movie composed by Academy Award winner Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Alien, Chinatown, Planet of the Apes, The Omen), including previously unreleased music.
