The film is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, RJ Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. Paul Weller to Score ‘Jawbone’

paul-wellerBritish singer/songwriter Paul Weller is set to compose the music for the upcoming boxing drama Jawbone. The film is directed by Thomas Napper and stars Johnny Harris, Ray Winstone, Michael Smiley and Ian McShane. The movie follows a former youth boxing champion who, after hitting rock bottom, returns to his childhood boxing club and his old team. Harris has also written the screenplay. Ennio Morricone Wins Oscar for ‘The Hateful Eight’

oscarsEnnio Morricone has received his second Academy Award for his music for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. He previously received an Academy Honorary Award in 2007 for his lifetime achievement and was nominated five times before. The other nominated composers in the Best Original Score category were John Williams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Thomas Newman (Bridge of Spies), Carter Burwell (Carol) and Johann Johannsson (Sicario). sclYesterday afternoon, the Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) hosted its annual reception honoring the Oscar-nominated composers and songwriters in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song category, which was held for the second time in a row at Cafe La Boheme in West Hollywood. SCL president Ashley Irwin introduced the nominees who briefly addressed the audience. Four of the five nominated composers in the score category were in attendance, including John Williams, who received his 50th Academy Award nomination for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He thanked the Academy music branch and the other nominees and jokingly singled out Ennio Morricone as an “inspiration to us younger composers.” Morricone, who received his sixth Oscar nomination for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, also briefly spoke to the audience. The show is created by Aaron Martin (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and stars Katie McGrath, Brandon Jay McLaren, Steve Byers, Dean McDermottEnuka Okuma and Erin Karpluk. The series’ first season follows a woman who returns home to find herself wrapped up in a series of grisly murders that mirror the death of her parents. Christina Jennings & Scott Garvie (Murdoch Mysteries) are executive producing the project with Martin. The film is written and directed by Francois Ozon and stars Pierre Niney, Paula Beer, Marie Gruber, Ernst Stötzner, Johann von Bülow and Anton von Lucke. The movie takes place in the aftermath of WWI and revolves around the encounter between a young German woman who grieves the death of her fiancé in France, and a mysterious French man who visits the fiance’s grave to lay flowers. Eric and Nicolas Altmayer (Saint LaurentChocolat) are producing the project for Mandarin Cinema.
