cinemaaudiosocietyThe Cinema Audio Society has announced the nominees for the 52nd Annual CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing. For the past couple of years, scoring mixers have been recognized alongside production, re-recording, ADR and foley mixers. In the Motion Pictures – Live Action category, the scoring mixers honored include Thomas Vicari for Bridge of Spies (feat. music by Thomas Newman), Fabio Venturi for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight (music by Ennio Morricone), Conrad Hensel for Alejandro G. Inarritu’s The Revenant (scored by Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto) and Shawn Murphy for J.J. flesh-and-boneVarese Sarabande will release a new soundtrack album for the Starz original series Flesh and Bone. The album features the four-movement original Dakini Ballet composed by Adam Crystal. The composer wrote the music for the 13-minute original ballet created for the show by creator Moira Walley-Beckett and choreographer Ethan Stiefel. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 15, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The soundtrack will be released digitally on January 22, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Embrace of the Serpent is directed by Ciro Guerra and centers on Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his people, and the two scientists who, over the course of 40 years, build a friendship with him. The drama, which was Columbia’s entry for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards, premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and will be released in select U.S. theaters on February 12 by Oscilloscope Labaratories. The album features selections of original music from the show’s third and fourth season composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Pacific Rim, Clash of the Titans, Iron Man, The Strain). golden-globesEnnio Morricone has received his third Golden Globe Award for his score for Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight. Tarantino accepted the award on Morricone’s behalf. The composer previously received the prize for his work on The Mission and The Legend of 1900. The other composers nominated in the Best Original Score category were Alexandre Desplat (The Danish Girl), Carter Burwell (Carol), Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs) and Ryuichi Sakamoto & Alva Noto (The Revenant).
