Lorne Balfe has signed on to score the upcoming ITV original series Marcella. The show is created by Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge) & Nicola Larder and stars Anna Friel, Laura Carmichael, Nicholas Pinnock, Ian Puleston-Davies, Nina Sosanya, Ray Panthaki, Jamie Bamber, Sinead Cusack, Patrick Baladi and Harry Lloyd. The drama is set in contemporary London and follows a detective who returns to the Metropolitan Police’s Murder Squad after a 10-year long career break to start a family. Rosenfeldt and Larder are also executive producing the project with Tony Wood. Charles Martin (New Worlds, Skins), Jonathan Teplitzky (The Railway Man, Broadchurch) and Henrik Georgsson (The Bridge) are directing the 8-part series. Read the rest of this entry »

Academy Awards producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin announced today the first slate of presenters and performers for the 88th Oscars telecast. The list includes Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and The Weeknd who are expected to perform their Oscar-nominated songs at the ceremony. Lady Gaga is nominated alongside Diane Warren for the song Til it Happens to You from the documentary The Hunting Ground, while Smith received a nomination the song Writing’s On the Wall from the James Bond film Spectre, which he co-wrote with Jimmy Napes. Legacy Recordings has announced a soundtrack album for the biographical drama I Saw the Light. The album feature new interpretations of classic Hank Williams tracks performed for the film by Tom Hiddleston and the Saddle Spring Boys. Also included are popular recordings contemporaneous to Hank’s life and career, including tracks by Eddy Arnold, The Delmore Brothers, Jo Stafford, Jimmy Liggins, Eartha Kitt, George Morgan and Emmett Miller. Gabriel Yared is reuniting with director Xavier Dolan on the upcoming drama It’s Only the End of the World (Juste la fin du monde). The film is written and directed by Dolan (Mommy, I Killed My Mother) and stars Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye and Gaspard Ulliel. La-La Land Records will release a new soundtrack album for the 1995 action thriller Nick of Time directed by John Badham and starring Johnny Depp, Christopher Walken and Charles S. Dutton. The album features the expanded and remastered score from the Paramount Pictures production composed and conducted by Arthur B. Rubinstein (Blue Thunder, Wargames, Scarecrow and Mrs. King), including more than 30 minutes of previously unreleased music. The CD is limited to 1500 copies.
