Two movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the 40th anniversary re-release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Teri Garr, Melinda Dillon and Francois Truffaut. The film’s original music is composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Jaws). While Arista’s 1998 Collector’s Edition soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score is still available digitally, a new limited soundtrack CD for the movie was announced this week and will be released by La-La Land Records. No word yet on a release date.
Also opening wide is the period drama Tulip Fever directed by Justin Chadwick and starring Alicia Vikander, Dan DeHaan, Christoph Waltz, Holliday Grainger, Jack O’Connell, Zach Galifianakis, Dame Judi Dench, Matthew Morrison, Tom Hollander and Cara Delevingne. Danny Elfman (Batman, Spider-Man, Alice in Wonderland, A Nightmare Before Christmas) has composed the film’s original music. Back Lot Music will release the official soundtrack album for the drama Victoria & Abdul. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Thomas Newman (American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Finding Nemo, Skyfall, Erin Brockovich). The soundtrack will be released on September 22, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on 
Netflix announced today that Glen Ballard is composing original music for the upcoming Netflix original series The Eddy. The musical drama is creaed by Jack Thorne (National Treasure, This is England) and revolves around a club in contemporary multicultural Paris, its owner, the house band, and the chaotic city that surrounds them. The show will be shot in France and feature dialogue in French, English and Arabic. Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash) is directing the first two episodes and will serve as an executive producer on the IMG production alongside Ballard,Thorne, Alan Poul (Six Feet Under, The Newsroom), Patrick Spence (Guerrilla, Fortitude) and Katie Swinden (Luther, Peaky Blinders). 
The details of the soundtrack album for the indie drama Woodshock have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Peter Raeburn. The soundtrack will be released digitally and physically on September 15, 2017 by Milan Records and is now available for pre-order on 
Shout Factory Records has released a soundtrack album for the Netflix original series Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return. The album features the songs from the series by cast members including Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Hampton Yount, Baron Vaughn, Rebecca Hanson, Patton Oswalt, Neil Patrick Harris, Mark Hamill & more, as well as several tracks by Paul and Storm and the comedy’s house band Skeleton Crew. The soundtrack is now available to download on 
Varese Sarabande will release a soundtrack album for the thriller The Limehouse Golem. The album features the film’s original music composed by Johan Söderqvist (Let the Right One In, In a Better World, Kon-Tiki, After the Wedding). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, September 1 and will be available to download on 
John Paesano is scoring Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming feature The Star. The film is directed by Timothy Reckart and features the voice talent of Steven Yeun, Gina Rodriguez, Zachary Levi, Keegan-Michael Key, Kelly Clarkson, Anthony Anderson, Kristin Chenoweth, Tracy Morgan, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. The movie centers on a small but brave donkey who yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill and, one day, finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. 
Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the sci-fi thriller Rememory. The album features the film’s original music composed by Gregory Tripi (Manhunt: Unabomber, Dark Places). The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 8, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on 
Taro Iwashiro is reteaming with director John Woo on the upcoming action thriller Manhunt. The film starring Zhang Hanyu, Masaharu Fukuyama, Qi Wei and Ha Jiwon is based on the classic 1970s Japanese feature Kimi yo Fundo no Kawa o Watare and follows an innocent man who sets out to clear his name after his is framed for robbery and rape. Gordon Chan (Painted Skin, he Medaillon) and Chan Hing Kai are producing the project. Iwashiro has previously collaborated with Woo (Face/Off, Broken Arrow, Windtalkers, Mission: Impossible 2) on his last features, Red Cliff and The Crossing.
