big-little-liesPremiering tonight is the HBO original mini-series Big Little Lies directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club, Wild), executive produced by David E. Kelley and starring Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skårsgard, Adam Scott, James Tupper and Jeffrey Nordling. The show doesn’t feature any original score. Susan Jacobs serves as the project’s music supervisor. crashingAlso premiering tonight is the HBO original series Crashing executive produced by Judd Apatow and Pete Holmes who also stars in the show alongside Lauren Lapkus, George Basil, T.J. Miller, Artie Lange, Dave Attell, Hannibal Burress, Sarah Silverman, Gina Gershon. The comedy’s original music is composed by Lyle Workman (The 40-Year Old Virgin, Superbad, Love, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Brooke & Will Blair Scoring Evan Katz’s ‘Small Crimes’

small-crimesBrooke Blair and Will Blair are composing the music for the upcoming indie comedy Small Crimes. The film is directed by Evan Katz (Cheap Thrills) and stars Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jacki Weaver, Robert Forster, Gary Cole, Molly Parker and Pat Healy. The movie follows a disgraced former cop who is released from prison and returns home looking for redemption but winds up trapped in the mess he left behind. Katz also co-wrote the screenplay with the composers’ brother Macon Blair who also appears in the film. David Lancaster (Whiplash, Nightcrawler, Eye in the Sky) and Stephanie Wilcox are producing the project.  Read the rest of this entry »

‘La La Land’ Wins Cinema Audio Society Award

cinemaaudiosocietyThe team behind the sound mixing of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land has won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing in the Motion Pictures– Live Action category at tonight’s 53rd annual Cinema Audio Society Awards ceremony at the Bunker Hill Ballroom of the OMNI Los Angeles Hotel at California Plaza. Scoring mixer Nicholai Baxter, along with production mixer Steven Morrow, re-recording mixers Andy Nelson & Ai-Ling Lee and ADR mixer David Betancourt received the award for the drama starring Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling and scored by Justin Hurwitz. The other contenders in the category were Doctor Strange, Hacksaw Ridge, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Sully.  Read the rest of this entry »

The film is written and directed by Boaz Yakin (Remember the Titans, Fresh, Safe, Max) and stars Will Patton, Samantha Mathis, Sterling Jerins, Luke Prael and Tammy Blanchard. The movie is set in a mysterious boarding school where children deemed undesirable are committed and revolves around a 12-year-old boy who starts to suspect that something much more sinister than education is going on when one of the students is found dead. The film is written and directed by Jared Moshé (Dead Men’s Burden) and stars Bill Pullman, Kathy Baker, Jim Caviezel, Tommy Flanagan, Peter Fonda, Joe Anderson, Diego Josef, Michael Spears, Lewis Pullman and Joseph Anderson. The movie is set in 1889 after Congress declared the frontier closed and follows a 63 year old sidekick who confronts the ugly realities of frontier justice. Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

great-wallOpening in most theaters is the fantasy epic The Great Wall directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Matt Damon, Jing Tian, Pedro Pascal, Willem Dafoe, Hanyu Zhang, Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Kenny Lin, Junkai Wang and Zheng Kai. The film’s original music is composed by Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones, Westworld, Iron Man, Pacific Rim). Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. a-cure-for-wellnessAlso opening nationwide is the psychological thriller A Cure for Wellness directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Dane DeHaan, Jason Isaacs and Mia Goth. Benjamin Wallfisch (Lights Out, Hidden Figures, The Escapist, Desert Dancer) has composed the film’s original music. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Rupert Gregson-Williams in Talks to Score ‘Legacy of Fire’

rupert-gregson-williamsProducer Timothy Haas announced today that Rupert Gregson-Williams is in talks to score the upcoming drama Legacy of Fire. The film is directed by Stuart Orme (Colditz, The Puppet Masters, The Lost World) and is set to star Malcolm McDowell as German composer Richard Strauss. The movie centers on the battle to save his Jewish daughter-in-law Alice during the Nazi period. Haas also wrote the screenplay (with additional material from Wendy Oberman) and is producing the project with Philip Waley for Haas Silver Levene Film Studios, alongside Bernie Stampfer, Markus R. Soundtrack EP for Amazon’s ‘Patriot’ to Be Released

patriotAmazon Content Services will release a soundtrack for the new Amazon original series Patriot. The EP features the songs from the show performed by actor Michael Dorman. Also included is Vashti Bunyan’s Train Song as features in the pilot episode. The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 24, 2017 and is now available for pre-order here. Patriot is.created by Steve Conrad (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Weather Man) and stars Dorman, alongside Terry O’Quinn, Michael Chernus, Kathleen Munroe, Aliette Opheim and Kurtwood Smith. ‘La La Land’, ‘Captain Fantastic’, ‘Stranger Things’ & ‘The Get Down’ Honored at Guild of Music Supervisors Awards

guild-of-music-supervisorsThe 7th Guild of Music Supervisors Awards were handed out on Thursday night at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Steven Gizicki received the top honor in the Best Music Supervision in Motion Picture – Motion Picture Over 25M for his work on Damien Chazelle’s La La Land. He also received an award for the song City of Stars from the musical in the Best Song/Recording Created for a Film category, which he shared with the film’s composer/songwriter Justin Hurwitz. The song previously won the Golden Globe and is also up for an Academy Award. Chris Douridas received the award in the Motion Picture Under 25M category for his music supervision on Matt Ross’ Captain Fantastic starring Viggo Mortensen. Howard Paar was honored in the Motion Picture Under 10M category for his music supervision on the indie dramedy 20th Century Women and Joel C. clawsJeff Rona is composing the score for the upcoming TNT original series Claws. The show is created by Eliot Laurence (Welcome to Me) and stars Niecy Nash, Carrie Preston, Harold Perrineau, Jenn Lyon, Judy Reyes, Jack Kesy, Karrueche Tran, Kevin Rankin and Jason Antoon. The comedy drama chronicles the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in South Florida. Rashida Jones & Will McCormack (Celeste & Jesse Forever) are executive producing the project for La Train Train, alongside showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois (Criminal Minds, ER).
