Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

smurfsOpening in most theaters is the animated feature Smurfs: The Lost Village directed by Kelly Asbury and starring  Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi and Mandy Patinkin. The film’s original music is composed by Christopher Lennertz (Sausage Party, Horrible Bosses). Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as song written by Lennertz & KT Tunstall (click here for the full details). Also now available as a single another original song from the movie, I’m a Lady by Meghan Trainor.

going-in-styleAlso opening wide is the crime comedy Going in Style directed by Zach Braff and starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Ann-Margret, Joey King, Matt Dillon and Christopher Lloyd. Rob Simonsen (Foxcatcher, The Spectacular Now, Nerve) has composed the film’s original music. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as songs by Dean Martin, Otis Redding, Jamie Cullum, Sonny Rollins & more. ‘Empire’ Season 3 Soundtrack Details

empireColumbia Records will release a new soundtrack album for the Fox hit drama Empire. The album a selection of the songs from the show’s third season by cast members including Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon), Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) and Bryshere Gray a.k.a. Yazz (Hakeem Lyon), as well as Serayah, Mariah Carey, Rumor Willis & more. The soundtrack will be released on April 28, 2017 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The label has previously released three soundtrack albums featuring the songs from the first two seasons. Empire is created by Lee Daniels & Danny Strong and follows the head of a music empire whose three sons and ex-wife all battle for his throne.  Read the rest of this entry »

The film starring Matt Damon, Christoph Waltz, Kristen Wiig, Hong Chau, Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Sudeikis and Rolf Lassgård follows a man who joins the throngs of people undergoing a new process that reduces people to a tiny fraction of their size before moving to one of the many communities of small people that are sprouting up around the world. Academy Announces New Awards Rules

oscarsThe Academy of Motion Pictures announced a couple of new rules and campaign regulations for next year’s 90th Academy Awards, which were approved at their most recent Board meeting on Tuesday, March 28, including one in the music categories. The new rules state that, “in the Music (Original Score) category, in the case of a score that has three or more equally contributing composers, the composers may be considered as a group. ‘Red’ Soundtrack Announced

The album features the film’s original music composed by Tom Schutzinger (Somersault, Jewboy, Yolk, Lucky Country, Caught Inside). The track is performed by the rock band American Authors and will be released as a digital single tomorrow, April 7 and will be available to download on Amazon. Born in China is directed by Lu Chuan and narrated by John Krasinski. Julian Wass Scoring HBO’s ‘Room 104’

julian-wassJulian Wass has been tapped to score the upcoming HBO original series Room 104. The show is created by Mark & Jay Duplass (Cyrus, Jeff Who Lives at Home). The anthology series tells a different story of a group of assorted characters who pass through the room of an average American hotel in each episode. The Duplass brothers are also executive producing the comedy with Xan Aranda (Blue Jay). Wass has previously collaborated with the filmmakers on the features The Do-Deca Pentathlon, which they directed, and The Overnight & Blue Jay, which they produced.  Read the rest of this entry »
