The only new movie opening nationwide this week is the psychological thriller Joker directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Marc Maron, and Shea Whigham. The film’s original music is composed by Hildur Gudnadottir (Chernobyl, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Mary Magdalene). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Opening in limited release is the sci-fi drama Lucy in the Sky directed by Noah Hawley and starring Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm, Zazie Beetz, Dan Stevens, Colman Domingo, Pearl Amanda Dickson and Ellen Burstyn. Jeff Russo (Fargo, Star Trek: Discovery, The Night Of, Legion, The Umbrella Academy) has composed the film’s original music. Nathan Wang has recently recorded his score for the upcoming family comedy Playing with Fire. The film is directed by Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, Parental Guidance) and stars John Cena, Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo, Judy Greer, Brianna Hildebrand, Christian Convery, Finley Rose Slater and Tyler Mane. The movie follows a group of elite firefighters who have their lives, jobs and even their fire depot turned upside down when they are faced with their most challenging job yet: babysitting. ‘Last Christmas’ Soundtrack Album Announced

Sony Music has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the romantic comedy Last Christmas. The album features three Wham! songs, including the title track, as well as twelve songs from George Michael‘s solo career. Also featured is the previously unreleased song This Is How (We Want You to Get High), which was co-written and co-produced by Michael and James Jackman. The soundtrack will be released digitally and on CD on November 8 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon (CD version) and here (digital version). A vinyl edition is set to come out the following week. Last Christmas is directed by Paul Feig and stars Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson. Read the rest of this entry »

BMG has released a soundtrack album for the Netflix documentary The Great Hack. The album features the film’s original music composed by Gil Talmi (Savannah, Chavela, Food Chains). The soundtrack is now available to stream and download on Amazon Music, where you can also check out audio samples. The Great Hack is directed by Karim Amer & Jehane Noujaim and explores how a data company named Cambridge Analytica came to symbolize the dark side of social media in the wake of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Singer/songwriter Lynda Kay has recorded a number of songs for the new season of the Amazon original series Goliath. Available now to stream and download are her covers of Roy Orbison’s In Dreams and Crying, and Kenny Rogers and the First Edition’s Just Dropped in (To See What Condition My Condition Was In). Kay also appears in several episodes of the third season of the show created by David E. The album features a selection of songs from the show written by composer Mark Rivers and performed by the animated comedy’s voice cast, including Nick Kroll, Maya Rudolph, Jessi Klein, Jenny Slate, Jordan Peele, Jason Mantzouka, Fred Armisen, John Mulaney, Thandie Newton, Craig Robinson, Martin Short & others. Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature The Addams Family. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award winner Mychael Danna (Life of Pi, Moneyball, Capote) and Jeff Danna (The Good Dinosaur, Storks). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 11 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. As previously reported, two original songs (by Christina Aguilera and Migos, KAROL G, Snoop Dogg & Rock Mafia) are already available now. Composer Arturo Sandoval is reuniting with Clint Eastwood on the upcoming drama Richard Jewell. The film directed by Eastwood stars Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, as well as Paul Walter Hauser in the title role. The movie tells the story of American security guard, Richard Jewell, who heroically saves thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics, but is unjustly vilified by journalists and the press who falsely report that he was a terrorist. Milan Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Atlantics (Atlantique). The album features the film’s original music composed by Fatima Al Qadiri. The soundtrack is now available to download in French music stores (click here to check out audio samples) and will be released in the U.S. and other markets on November 15 (visit Amazon to pre-order the album). Atlantics is directed by Mati Diop and stars Mama Sané, Amadou Mbow, Ibrahima Traoré, Nicole Sougou, Amina Kane, Mariama Gassama and Coumba Dieng. The movie, which has just been selected as Senegal’s candidate for the Best International Feature category for next year’s Academy Awards, centers on the blossoming love between, a young construction worker and a woman who is about to be forced into an unwanted arranged marriage with a wealthier man.
