Weekly TV Music Roundup (June 19, 2016)
Premiering today in the U.S. is the British/French TV series The Tunnel based on the Scandinavian drama The Bridge and starring Stephen Dillane and Clémence Poésy. The music from the show’s first season is composed by Adrian Johnston (Becoming Jane, Kinky Boots, Bridesheads Revisited, Dancing on the Edge) and the second season is scored by Ben Bartlett (Walking with Dinosaurs, The Mark of Cain). The drama follows two detectives working together to find a serial killer who left the upper-half body of a French politician and the lower-half of a British prostitute in the Channel Tunnel. Premiering tomorrow, June 20, is the documentary Suited directed by Jason Benjamin and produced by Lena Dunham. Owen Pallett (Her, Life, The Box) has composed the film’s original music. The movie centers on Bindle & Keep, a Brooklyn tailoring company that is known for making custom suits for a growing legion of gender-nonconforming clients. ‘The Bureau’ Soundtrack Released
Universal Music has released a soundtrack album for the French TV series The Bureau. The album features the show’s original music composed by Rob (aka Robin Coudert) (Maniac, Horns, Awakening: The Beginning, Every Secret Thing). Also included is the drama’s title song Trust by Jeanne Added. The soundtrack is now available digitally in France. OWN’s ‘Greenleaf’ to Feature Music by Nathan Barr
Nathan Barr is composing the original score for the new OWN original series Greenleaf. The show is created by Craig Wright (Tyrant, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Dirty Sexy Money) and stars Merle Dandridge, Lynn Whitfield, Keith David, Lamman Rucker, Tye White, Kim Hawthorne, Gregory Alan Williams, Deborah Joy Winans and Oprah Winfrey. The drama is set against the backdrop of a sprawling Memphis megachurch and follows an estranged daughter and disillusioned preacher who has returned home after 20 years on the occasion of the mysterious death of her sister.
‘Gomorrah’ TV Series Soundtrack Announced
Goodfellas Records will release a soundtrack album for the Italian crime drama Gomorrah. The album features selections of the show’s original music composed by Mokadelic. Gomorrah is based on the best-selling non-fiction book by journalist Roberto Saviano and inspired by the 2008 feature directed by Matteo Garrone. The drama is set in the suburbs of Naples and tells the inside story of the Camorra, the fierce Neapolitan crime organization.
Mark Mothersbaugh Scoring Amazon’s ‘The Interestings’
Mark Mothersbaugh has scored the pilot for the Amazon Studios series The Interestings. The show is created by Lyn Greene & Richard Levine (Masters of Sex, Nip/Tuck) and stars Lauren Ambrose, David Krumholtz, Jessica Pare, Matt Barr, Gabriel Ebert, Jessica Collins and Corey Cott. The drama is based on Meg Wolitzer’s bestselling novel and follows a group of artistic teenagers who meet at summer camp in 1974 and whose friendships are tested by tragedy, success, failure and secrets over the next few decades. Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Four Weddings and a Funeral) has directed the pilot episode.
Mychael Danna Scoring Amazon’s ‘The Last Tycoon’
Mychael Danna has recently scored the pilot for the Amazon Studios original series The Last Tycoon. The show is written and directed by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, The Hunger Games) and stars Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer and Lily Collins. The drama is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s last work and follows Hollywood’s Golden Boy, Monroe Stahr as he battles father figure and boss, Pat Brady for the soul of their studio. Ray is also executive producing the TriStar Television production with Ray & Christopher Keyser (Tyrant, Party of Five), Joshua D. Maurer, Alixandre Witlin & David A. Stern (Rosemary’s Baby).
Soundtrack for HBO’s ‘All the Way’ to Be Released
Decca Records will release a soundtrack album for the HBO original movie All the Way. The album features the film’s original music composed by James Newton Howard (King Kong, The Sixth Sense, The Hunger Games, Maleficent, The Fugitive, Signs). The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, June 17 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio samples. Jeff Cardoni to Score CBS’ ‘Training Day’ TV Series
Jeff Cardoni has been tapped to score the upcoming CBS drama Training Day. The show is created by Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and stars Drew Van Acker, Bill Paxton, Katrina Law, Lex Scott Davis, Julie Benz, Justin Cornwell and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. The series is inspired by the 2001 feature starring Denzel Washington & Ethan Hawke and follows a young, idealistic police officer who goes undercover in the elite Special Investigation Section of the LAPD and is tasked with spying on his new partner, a seasoned detective who engages in questionable methods.
‘Family Guy’ Score Album Announced
La-La Land Records will release the world premiere score soundtrack album for the Fox animated hit series Family Guy. The album features selections from the original music from the show’s first four seasons composed by Walter Murphy (Ted, Ted 2, American Dad!) and Ron Jones (American Dad!, Duck Tales, Star Trek: The Next Generation). Family Guy: Movement I is limited to 5000 copies and will be available to order on June 21 on the label’s official website. The CD is also available to order on Amazon. Family Guy is created by Seth MacFarlane and features the voices of MacFarlane himself, as well as Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Lacey Chabert, Mila Kunis, Mike Henry and Patrick Warburton.
