Premiering in the U.S. today is the Norwegian mini-series Atlantic Crossing written by Alexander Eik & Linda May Kallestein, directed by Eik and starring Sofia Helin, Kyle MacLachlan and Tobias Santelmann. The show’s original music is composed by Raymond Enoksen (Haunted, Ice Road Rescue). Dreamscore Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last year when the 8-part drama premiered overseas. Also premiering tonight is the Fox TV special Malika the Lion Queen directed by Karin Slater and narrated by Angela Bassett. Jasha Klebe (Planet Earth II, The Black Godfather, Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom, Medal of Honor, Challenger Disaster: Lost Tapes) has composed the original music for the special. The documentary, which follows a powerful pride of lions in South Africa’s Kruger National Park and explores the exhilarating and harrowing life of lioness Malika, will air on Fox tonight. Premiering tomorrow, April 5 is the PBS documentary Hemingway directed by Ken Burns & Lynn Novick about the visionary work and the turbulent life of Ernest Hemingway, one of the greatest and most influential writers America has ever produced. The show’s original music is composed by David Cieri (The Vietnam War, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History, Booker’s Place: A Mississippi Story, Oklahoma City). In a Circle Records has released a soundtrack album featuring Hemingway-inspired music from the 3-parter by Cieri, Johnny Gandelsman (who also produced the record), Gyan Riley, Shanir Blumenkranz & others. Premiering on Wednesday, April 7, is the CW drama Kung Fu developed by Christina M. Kim inspired by the 70s series of the same title and starring Olivia Liang, Kheng Hua Tan, Shannon Dang, Eddie Liu, Jon Prasida, Gavin Stenhouse, Vanessa Kai,Tony Chung and Tzi Ma. Sherri Chung (Riverdale, Blindspot, Batwoman,, The Lost Husband) is composing the show’s original music. Also premiering on Wednesday is the HBO hybrid docu-series Exterminate All the Brutes written and directed by Raoul Peck about the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism and the meaning of the Native American genocide and American slavery. The show’s original music is composed by Alexei Aigui (The Truth, I Am Not Your Negro, The Young Karl Marx, Locust, Test) . Premiering on Thursday, April 8, is the ABC drama Rebel created by Krista Vernoff and starring Katey Sagal, John Corbett, James Lesure, Tamala Jones, Lex Scott Davis, Ariela Barer, Sam Palladio, Kevin Zegers and Andy Garcia. Gabriel Mann (Modern Family, A Million Little Things, Rectify, Rosewood) and Rebeca Kneubuhl (Dawn of the Croods, Sydney to the Max) have scored the pilot episode and Danny Lux (Grey’s Anatomy, Ally McBeal, Manifest) is currently scoring the rest of the season. Also premiering in the U.S. on Friday is the German Amazon original series We Children from Bahnhof Zoo directed by Philipp Kadelbach and starring Jana McKinnon, Michelangelo Fortuzzi, Bruno Alexander, Lena Urzendowsky, Jeremias Meyer and Lea Drinda. Robot Koch has contributed the songs to the show and also co-wrote the original score with Michael Kadelbach (Perfume, Isi & Ossi, Naked Among Wolves). Missing from last week’s TV music roundup was the new CBS comedy United States of Al created by David Goetsch & Maria Ferrari and starring Adhir Kalyan, Parker Young, Elizabeth Alderfer, Dean Norris, Kelli Goss and Farrah Mackenzie. The show’s original music is composed by Robert Randolph. The series, which revolves around a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio and the Interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has just arrived to start a new life in America, premiered on April 1 and will air Thursday nights on CBS.
