Premiering in the U.S. tonight is the BBC natural history documentary The Hunt executive produced by Alastair Fothergill, produced by Huw Cordey and narrated Sir David Attenborough. The show’s original music is composed by Steven Price (Gravity, Suicide Squad, Fury, Attack the Block, At World’s End) who received the BAFTA TV Craft Award for his work on the series earlier this year. Silva Screen Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score overseas last year. The domestic album release is set for July 8. Steven Price Wins BAFTA TV Craft Award for ‘The Hunt’
Steven Price won his first BAFTA TV Craft Award today for his music for the BBC documentary The Hunt. The Academy Award-wining composer who recorded his score with the BBC Concert Orchestra accepted his award in person at the ceremony in London. Price’s score for the natural history docu-series is available on Sony Music. The other nominees in the category were Anne Dudley for Poldark, Ben Foster & Nick Foster for Thunderbirds Are Go! and Olafur Arnalds for Broadchurch. For the full list of winners, click here.
Steven Price to Score ‘Suicide Squad’
Steven Price has signed on to score the upcoming comic book movie Suicide Squad. The film is written and directed by David Ayer (End of Watch, screenwriter of Training Day) and starsJared Leto, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach and Viola Davis. The movie is based on the DC Comics of the same title and centers on a secret government agency recruits imprisoned supervillains to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for clemency. Charles Roven (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, Twelve Monkeys) is producing the project with Richard Suckle (American Hustle, Scooby-Doo).
Soundtrack for BBC’s ‘The Hunt’ Announced
Sony Music has announced a soundtrack album for the BBC natural history documentary The Hunt. The album features the series’ original music composed by Academy Award winner Steven Price (Gravity, Fury, The World’s End, Attack the Block) performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra under conductor, Geoffrey Alexander. The soundtrack will be released overseas on November 13, 2015 and is now available as an import on Amazon. The Hunt is executive produced by Alastair Fothergill (Blue Planet, Frozen Earth, Planet Earth), produced by Huw Cordey (Planet Earth, South Pacific) and centers on the relationship between predators and their prey. The 7-part series is narrated by Sir David Attenborough and features rarely seen animal behaviour including killer whales hunting humpback whales in tropical waters.

Expected to top the weekend box office is the action war drama Fury written and directed by David Ayer and starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jason Isaacs and Scott Eastwood. The film’s original music is composed by Steven Price (Gravity, Attack the Block, The World’s End). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Wendy & Lisa, Steven Price, Bear McCreary & Dave Porter Honored at ASCAP Film & TV Music Awards
Last night, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) held its annual Film & Television Music Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman received the inaugural ASCAP Shirley Walker Award, which honors those whose achievements have contributed to the diversity of film and television music. The composer duo, known for their work on such features as Dangerous Minds and Just Wright and TV shows including Heroes, Nurse Jackie and Touch, were presented the award by music supervisor Liza Richardson. Hans Zimmer congratulated the Emmy Award-winning composers via a video message.
Steven Price, Steve Jablonsky, Stanley Clarke & Pharrell Williams Invited to Join the Academy
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 271 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Among the invited artists this year a number of film composers, including Steven Price (The World’s End, Attack the Block) who received his first Academy Award this year for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, Steve Jablonsky who is best known for his collaborations with Michael Bay, including the Transformers movies, as well as films such as Ender’s Game, Battleship and Gangster Squad, Stanley Clarke who scored such movies as Passenger 57, The Best Man Holiday and Boyz N the Hood and Buck Sanders (Warm Bodies) who received an Oscar nomination for The Hurt Locker.
