John Debney (The Jungle Book, The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, Elf, The Emperor’s New Groove) is set to return as the composer of the upcoming Disney+ original movie Hocus Pocus 2. The film will be directed by Anne Fletcher (The Proposal, 27 Dresses, Step Up) and will star Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker & Kathy Najimy who are reprising their roles of the Sanderson Sisters. The sequel follows three young women who accidentally bring the trio back to modern day Salem and must figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on the world. Lynn Harris (The Notebook, The Shallows) is producing the project.

John Debney Scoring the Erwin Brothers’ ‘American Underdog’
John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Iron Man 2, Elf) has recently been recording his score for the upcoming biographical drama American Underdog. The film is directed by the Erwin Brothers (I Can Only Imagine, Woodlawn) and stars Zachary Levi, Anna Paquin and Dennis Quaid. The movie tells the true story of Kurt Warner who went from a stockboy at a grocery store to a two-time NFL MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Hall of Fame quarterback. Jon Erwin & David Aaron Cohen (Friday Night Lights, The Devil’s Own) and Jon Gunn (Mercy Streets) wrote the screenplay based on the book All Things Possible Kurt Warner and Michael Silver.
‘Hocus Pocus’ Digital Score Album Released
Walt Disney Records has released a digital version of the soundtrack album for the studios’ 1993 fantasy comedy Hocus Pocus directed by Kenny Ortega and starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, Omri Katz, Thora Birch and Vinessa Shaw. The album features the film’s original score composed and conducted by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Iron Man 2, The Emperor’s New Groove, Bruce Almighty). Premiering today is the the National Geographic event series Genius: Aretha created by Suzan-Lori Parks and starring Cynthia Erivo, Courtney B. Vance, Malcolm Barrett, Pauletta Washington, David Cross, Patrice Covington, Rebecca Naomi Jones and Steven Norfleet. The show’s original score is composed by Terence Blanchard (BlacKkKlansman, Inside Man, Da 5 Bloods, Malcolm X). Raphael Saadiq (Lovecraft County, Insecure) serves as the project’s executive music producer and Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe have provided a new version of their Emmy Award-nominated main titles theme. Premiering on Wednesday, March 24 is the HBO Sports documentary The Day Sports Stood Still directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Brian Grazer & Justin Wilkes about the unprecedented sports shutdown in March of 2020 and the remarkable turn of events that followed. Marcelo Zarvos (Fences, Wonder, Enough Said, The Affair, Ray Donovan, The Good Shepherd, The Loudest Voice) has composed the film’s original music. John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book, Elf, Hocus Pocus, The Emperor’s New Groove) is scoring the new Disney+ original series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. The show is based on the 1992 The Mighty Ducks feature film (scored by David Newman) and stars Lauren Graham, Emilio Estevez, Brady Noon, Maxwell Simkins, Swayam Bhatia, Luke Islam, Kiefer O’Reilly, Taegen Burns, Bella Higginbotham and DJ Watts. The drama is set in present day Minnesota and follows a 12-year old boy who failed to make the cut to join the Mighty Ducks junior hockey team and is encouraged by his mother to form a new team of underdogs with help from Gordon Bombay, the Ducks’ original coach.

John Debney has composed the original score for the upcoming romantic comedy Marry Me. The film is directed by Kat Coiro (And While We Were Here, Life Happens) and stars Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Maluma, John Bradley, Chloe Coleman and Sarah Silverman. The movie centers on the relationship between a musical superstar and a math teacher – two total strangers who agree to marry and then get to know each other. John Rogers (The Librarians, Leverage), Tami Sagher and Harper Dill wrote the screenplay based on the graphic novel by Bobby Crosby.
‘Looney Tunes: Back in Action’ & ‘Babe’ Deluxe Edition Soundtracks Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD Club series, including a deluxe edition for the 2003 animated/live-action hybrid comedy Looney Tunes: Back in Action directed by Joe Dante and starring Brendan Fraser, Jenna Elfman,, Timothy Dalton, Joan Cusack, Bill Goldberg, Heather Locklear and Steve Martin. The album features the film’s expanded original score composed by Jerry Goldsmith (The Omen, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Planet of the Apes, Chinatown, Basic Instinct, L.A. Confidential, Patton). Also included are the rewrites and additional music from the movie by John Debney, Cameron Patrick & others, as well as alternates and outtakes of Goldsmith’s score. ‘The Orville’ Season 2 Soundtrack Album Announced
La-La Land Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the Fox/Hulu original series The Orville. The album features selections of the original score from the show’s second season composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Iron Man 2), Joel McNeely (A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) and Andrew Cottee. Also included is Bruce Broughton’s main titles theme. The 2-CD set will be released on January 19, 2021 and is now available to order on Amazon or La-La Land’s official website. A digital version is set to come out on January 22 (click here to stream/download). The label has previously released a soundtrack featuring the composers’ music from the first season last year. The Orville is created by Seth MacFarlane and stars Macfarlane himself, Adrianne Palicki, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, Halston Sage, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Jessica Szohr and Penny Johnson Jerald.

Lakeshore Records will release a score album for the Netflix original film Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey have been revealed. The album features the movie’s original score composed by John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, The Jungle Book, Elf, Hocus Pocus, Iron Man 2, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, The Greatest Showman). The soundtrack will be released digitally tomorrow, December 4 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and other digital music stores. Atlantic Records has previously released a separate soundtrack featuring the songs from the movie, as well as a score suite. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is directed by David E. Talbert and stars Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Hugh Bonneville, Anika Noni Rose, Madalen Mills, Phylicia Rashad, Ricky Martin, Justin Cornwell, Sharon Rose, Lisa Davina Phillip and Kieron Dyer.

John Debney (The Passion of the Christ, Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book, Elf, Hocus Pocus, The Greatest Showman) has been hired to score the upcoming Disney+ original movie Home Alone. The film is directed by Dan Mazer (I Give It a Year, Da Ali G Show) and stars Archie Yates, Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Ally Maki, Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell, Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, Timothy Simons and Mikey Day. No plot details have been announced yet for the family comedy, which is based on the Chris Columbus-directed and John Hughes-written and -produced 1990 hit feature of the same title scored by John Williams. Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell wrote the screenplay.
