Lakeshore Records has released the first track from the soundtrack for Panos Cosmatos’ thriller Mandy. Children of the New Dawn is written by late composer Johann Johannsson (Arrival, Sicario, The Theory of Everything, Prisoners) and is now available to download as digital single on Amazon. Mandy is co-written and directed by Panos Cosmatos and stars Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, Linus Roache, Ned Dennehy, Olwen Fouéré, Richard Brake and Bill Duke.

‘Mary Magdalene’ Soundtrack Details
Milan Records will release the official soundtrack album for the biblical drama Mary Magdalene. The album features the film’s original music composed by Hildur Guðnadóttir (Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Strong Island) and Jóhann Jóhannsson (Arrival, The Theory of Everything, Sicario, Prisoners). The soundtrack will be released digitally overseas tomorrow, March 23. Mary Magdalene is directed by Garth Davis (Lion) and stars Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Tahar Rahim. The movie tells the story of Mary, a young woman in search of a new way of living, who defies her traditional family to join a new social movement led by the charismatic Jesus of Nazareth and soon finds a place for herself within the movement and at the heart of a journey that will lead to Jerusalem.
Jóhann Jóhannsson Revealed as Original Composer for Marc Forster’s ‘Christopher Robin’
Jóhann Jóhannsson‘s manager Tim Husom revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the composer had signed on to score Disney’s upcoming fantasy drama Christopher Robin before he passed away last week. The film directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland, World War Z) and starring Ewan McGregor & Hayley Atwell tells the story of Robin, the little boy from the Winnie the Pooh series, who is now all-grown-up and lost all sense of imagination. The movie is currently set to be released on August 3, 2018. Jóhannsson was also set to score the upcoming HBO mini-series Chernobyl as revealed by the project’s creator Craig Mazin last week.

Jóhann Jóhannsson passed away in Berlin this past Friday at age 48. The cause of death is unknown. The composer won the Golden Globe and received Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy nominations for his score for James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything. The following year, he won received an Oscar and BAFTA nomination for his music for Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario and also saw the release of Villeneuve’s Arrival, for which he received Golden Globe, BAFTA and Grammy nominations. He most recently collaborated with director Darren Aronofsky on mother!.

The full details of the soundtrack album for James Marsh’s drama The Mercy have been revealed. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee Johann Johannsson (Arrival, The Theory of Everything, Sicario, Prisoners). Also included are several tracks from the composer’s studio albums Orphée and Englabörn. The soundtrack will be released on February 2, 2018 by Deutsche Grammophon and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Mercy starring Colin Firth, Rachel Weisz, David Thewlis, Ken Stott and Jonathan Bailey chronicles amateur yachtsman Donald Crowhurst’s attempt to complete the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in 1968 and his subsequent attempts to cover up his failure.

Johann Johannsson Named Film Composer of the Year at World Soundtrack Awards
Johann Johannsson has been named Film Composer of the Year at the 17th World Soundtrack Awards, tonight’s closing event of the 44th Ghent Film Festival for his score for Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. He was previously nominated in the category in 2015. Nicholas Britell received his first World Soundtrack Award in the Discovery of the Year category for his Academy Award-nominated score from Moonlight. Rupert Gregson-Williams was honored as TV Composer of the year for his work on the Netflix original series The Crown.

Johann Johannsson and Hildur Guðnadóttir are scoring the upcoming drama Mary Magdalene. The film is directed by Garth Davis (Lion) and stars Rooney Mara in the title role, Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus Christ, Tahar Rahim as Judas Iscariot and Helen Edmundson and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Peter the Apostle. Philippa Goslett (An Inspector Calls) wrote the screenplay. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (The King’s Speech, Shame, Macbeth) are producing the project for See-Saw Pictures, alongside Liz Watts (Animal Kingdom, The Rover). The movie doesn’t feature an original score in the traditional sense as was originally reported and marks the Aronofksy’s first feature without a full score. mother! is written and directed by Aronofsky and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Brian Gleeson, Domhnall Gleeson, Stephen McHattie and Kristen Wiig. The psychological thriller focuses on a couple’s relationship, which is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
‘Blade Runner 2049’ to Feature Music by Hans Zimmer
Hans Zimmer is currently scoring Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. While we first heard of the composer’s involvement in the project back in May, Villeneuve clarified in a recent interview with Studio Cine Live that the composer is collaborating with Benjamin Wallfisch on the score and the theme written for the movie by the film’s original composer Johann Johannsson who is still involved in the project will be used in the score. The sci-fi thriller starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Carla Juri, Lennie James, Dave Bautista and Jared Leto takes place thirty years after the events of the first film and follows a new blade runner who unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green (Green Lantern) have written the screenplay.
