The composer talks about working with director Rob Marshall and his collaboration with Rodrigo y Gabriela on the music for the fourth installment in the Pirates series. ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande Records has revealed the details for the soundtrack release of Dreamworks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 2. The album includes the original score composed by Hans Zimmer and John Powell. EXCLUSIVE: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Soundtrack Details
Film Music Reporter has received the track list of the soundtrack for the adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The album features 11 tracks of the original score by Hans Zimmer and Rodrigo y Gabriela, as well as a number of remixes by electronic music artists Photek, Static Avenger, Ki:Theory and Adam Freeland. Also credited on the album is Eric Whitacre (who joined the music team as reported here) and composer Geoff Zanelli. There have also been two new cover arts circulating online (check out our previous article for the original one and see below for the other alternate cover). ‘Who Are the Roma?’ (Music by Hans Zimmer)
Hans Zimmer has written the music for the public awareness short film Who Are the Roma?. The film was produced by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in honor of the 40th anniversary of International Roma Day and to celebrate the culture and achievements of the Roma people, commonly called “gypsies”. Zimmer’s music features Aleksey Igudesman on solo violin. Igudesman previously performed on Zimmer’s score for Sherlock Holmes and he is also co-scoring the upcoming documentary Jealous of the Birds with Zimmer. Walt Disney Records has revealed the cover art for the upcoming soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer and as previously reported, Rodrigo y Garcia are also featured on the soundtrack. The album will be released on May 17, 2011. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ Soundtrack Update
Since our last update on the music for the upcoming adventure sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, we have learned more information about Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for the film. The music is being recorded this week in Los Angeles and one of the featured musicians that joined the production’s team is jazz trumpet player Arturo Sandoval. Sandoval is no stranger to film music, having previously worked on the soundtrack for Mambo Kings and having scored a few projects himself, including the Award-winning TV drama For Love and Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story starring Andy Garcia. Sandoval has won an Emmy Award for his original score for the film. He also previously worked with Hans Zimmer on this year’s animated feature Rango, which has lead to their second collaboration on the fourth Pirates movie. Sandoval joins Rodrigo y Garcia in the film’s team of musicians as reported earlier this year. Also involved in Rob Marshall’s movie is composer and conductor Eric Whitacre who has co-written one of the film’s new themes according to his blog.
John Powell Confirmed to Score ‘The Lorax’
A press release from Universal Pictures has confirmed this week that John Powell is writing the music for the upcoming animated feature The Lorax. The film based on the book by Dr. Seuss centers around a boy who searches for a way to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. He comes across the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. The film’s voice talent includes Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, Rob Riggle and Betty White. The movie is directed by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul (writers of Horton Hears a Who! and Despicable Me), as well as Chris Renaud (co-director of Despicable Me). The Lorax is the third feature from Illumination Entertainment after last year’s surprise hit Despicable Me (with music by Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams) and the upcoming Hop (scored by Christopher Lennertz). Powell has previously scored Blue Sky Studios’ Horton Hears a Who!, which was produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and was also based on a Dr. Seuss book.

Expanded ‘Broken Arrow’ Soundtrack released
La-La Land Records has released an expanded soundtrack for the 1996 action movie Broken Arrow. The film’s music is written by Hans Zimmer. The soundtrack album comes in a 2 disc-set and features more than 30 minutes of previously unreleased music for a total running time of almost two hours. The soundtrack is limited to 3000 copies and can be ordered on La-La Land Record’s webpage. Also check out the page for audio clips from the score. Broken Arrow is directed by John Woo and stars John Travolta and Christian Slater.
‘Rango’ Soundtrack Preview
Paramount Pictures has revealed a new clip from the upcoming animated movie Rango directed by Gore Verbinski. The clip features Hans Zimmer’s orchestral arrangement of the Rango theme song by Los Lobos that was previewed a few weeks ago on the Los Angeles Times Music Blog.
