Intrada Records has announced the world premiere of the score for the 1987 comedy drama Good Morning, Vietnam directed by Barry Levinson and starring Robin Williams. The music is composed by Academy Award winner Alex North (Spartacus, Cleopatra, A Street Car Named Desire,Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). Also included on the album is the expanded original score from Disney’s 1995 family adventure Operation Dumbo Drop directed by Simon Wincer and starring Danny Glover & Ray Liotta. The film’s music is composed and conducted by Academy Award nominee David Newman (Ice Age, Matilda, Serenity, War of the Roses, Anastasia).

David Newman Scoring Netflix’s ‘Naked’
David Newman is scoring the upcoming Netflix original movie Naked. The comedy is directed by Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House, Fifty Shades of Black) and stars Marlon Waynes, Regina Hall, Jonathan Todd Jackson, Scott Fole, Loretta Devine, Brian McKnight and Dennis Haysbert. The movie is based on the 2000 Swedish film Naken follows a charming man-child who wakes up on his wedding day, naked in an elevator, and relives the hour before the ceremony over and over again. Wayans and Rick Alvarez (White Chicks, Little Man) wrote the screenplay and are also producing the project with Todd Garner (Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Knight and Day) and Ryan Lewis.
David Newman Scoring Malcolm D. Lee’s ‘Girls Trip’
David Newman has recently recorded his score for the upcoming comedy Girls Trip. The film is directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday, Undercover Brother) and stars Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tiffany Haddish, Larenz Tate, Kate Walsh, Mike Colter and Queen Latifah. The movie follows four lifelong friends as they travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. Kenya Barris & Tracy Oliver (Barbershop: The Next Cut) wrote the screenplay. Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man, The Wedding Ringer) is producing the project with Lee.
‘DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp’ Soundtrack Announced
Intrada Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for Disney’s 1990 animated feature DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp directed by Bob Hathcot and featuring the voices of Alan Young, Terrence McGovern, Russi Taylor, Richard Libertini, Christopher Lloyd, June Foray, Chuck McCann, Joan Gerber and Rip Taylor. The album features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award nominee David Newman (Anastasia, Ice Age, The Flintstones, Serenity, The Nutty Professor, War of the Roses). Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Expected to top the weekend box office is Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange directed by Scott Derrickson and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Mads Mikkelsen, Michael Stuhlbarg and Tilda Swinton. The film’s original music is composed by Michael Giacchino (Star Trek, Up, Inside Out, Jurassic World, Lost, The Incredibles, Ratatouille). Also opening wide is the animated feature Trolls directed by Mike Mitchell & Walt Dohrn and featuring the voices of Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, Gwen Stefani, Ron Funches, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Russell Brand, James Corden and Jeffrey Tambor. Christophe Beck (Frozen, The Peanuts Movie, Ant-Man, The Muppets) has composed the film’s original score. RCA Records has released a soundtrack featuring the composer’s score. Last night, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) held its annual Film & TV Awards at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. James Newton Howard was honored with the organization’s Icon Award, which is bestowed on composers who have made significant contributions to the realm of film and television music. The composer whose credits include such hit films as The Hunger Games series, The Fugitive, Pretty Woman, Maleficent, Blood Diamond, The Dark Knight, Space Jam and My Best Friend’s Wedding was presented the award by the evening’s host, BMI Vice President, Film/TV Relations, Doreen Ringer-Ross and BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill.
James Newton Howard to Receive BMI Icon Award
Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) announced today that James Newton Howard will be honored with the organization’s Icon Award for outstanding career achievement at this year’s BMI Film & Television Awards. The composer whose best known scoring credits include The Sixth Sense, The Hunger Games series, King Kong, Signs, Maleficent and The Dark Knight has received eight Academy Award nominations throughout his career for works including Defiance, The Village, The Fugitive, Michael Clayton, The Prince of Tides and My Best Friend’s Wedding. He also was honored with four Golden Globe and three Grammy nominations and won a Grammy for his music for The Dark Knight, which he co-wrote with Hans Zimmer.
David Newman Scoring Larry Charles’ ‘Army of One’
David Newman has recently composed the music for the upcoming comedy Army of One. The film is directed by Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno, The Dictator) and stars Nicolas Cage, Russell Brand, Denis O’Hare, Ken Marino, Paul Scheer, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Rainn Wilson. The movie follows a handyman from Colorado who receives a vision telling him to go to Pakistan to capture Osama Bin Laden. Scott Rothman & Rajiv Joseph (Draft Day) have written the screenplay. Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler are producing the project for Conde Nast Entertainment, alongside James D. Stern (Looper, I’m Not There, Self/less) for Endgame Entertainment, as well as Emile Gladstone.

Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the action thriller Hitman: Agent 47 directed by Aleksander Bach and starring Rupert Friend, Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciarán Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann. The film’s original music is composed by Marco Beltrami (World War Z, The Wolverine, Scream, The Hurt Locker). La-La Land Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music next week. Also opening wide is the action comedy American Ultra directed by Nima Nourizadeh and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Topher Grace, Connie Britton, Tony Hale, John Leguizamo, Bill Pullman and Walton Goggins. Marcelo Zarvos (The Affair, Ray Donavan, Remember Me, Enough Said) has composed the film’s original score. No word yet on a soundtrack album. American Ultra follows a seemingly hapless and unmotivated stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend is suddenly turned upside down when he finds out that he is actually a highly trained, lethal sleeper agent.
