Amine Bouhafa (Timbuktu, Four Daughters, Beauty and the Dogs, Gagarine, The Man Who Sold His Skin) is set to compose the score for an upcoming animated film adaptation of Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen. The composer will incorporate melodies of the opera and also create original compositions for the movie directed by Sébastien Laudenbach (The Girl Without Hands). Damien Brunner (Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia) & Sarah Delmas are producing the project for Folivari, Veronica Lassenius and Pablo Jordi (Fungi) for Pikkukala and Pierre-Henri Léon for La Garde Montante.

Weekly Film Music Roundup (April 21, 2023)
Opening in theaters nationwide this weekend is the supernatural horror movie Evil Dead Rise written and directed by Lee Cronin and starring Lily Sullivan, Alyssa Sutherland, Morgan Davies, Gabrielle Echols and Nell Fisher. The film’s original music is composed by Stephen McKeon (The Hole in the Ground, Pilgrimage, Queen & Country, Norm of the North, Rose Plays Julie). WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score last Friday. Also opening wide is the the action thriller Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant co-written and directed by Ritchie and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim, Alexander Ludwig, Antony Starr, Emily Beecham, Bobby Schofield and Jonny Lee Miller. Chris Benstead (The Gentlemen, Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre, Wrath of Man) has composed the film’s original music. No soundtrack album has been announced. ‘Carmen’ Soundtrack Album Details
Sony Masterworks will release the official soundtrack album for the musical drama Carmen. The album features the film’s original score composed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Britell (Succession, Moonlight, Andor, If Beale Street Could Talk, Cruella, Don’t Look Up), as well as the movie’s original songs written by Britell, Taura Stinson, Julieta Venegas & Tracy “The D.O.C.” Curry. The soundtrack will be released digitally this Friday, April 21 and will be available to stream/download on Amazon and any other major digital music services. Carmen is co-written and directed by Benjamin Millepied and stars Melissa Barrera, Paul Mescal, Rossy de Palma and The D.O.C.
Benjamin Millepied’s ‘Carmen’ to Feature Original Songs by Nicholas Britell & Julieta Venegas
Variety is reporting that Academy Award-nominated composer Nicholas Britell (Moonlight, If Beale Street Could Talk, The Big Short, Vice) & Grammy Award-nominated singer/songwriter Julieta Venegas are composing new songs for the upcoming musical drama Carmen. The film is directed by Benjamin Millepied and is set to star Jamie Dornan and Melissa Barrera. As previously reported, Britell is also composing the score for the movie, which is inspired by French composer Georges Bizet’s opera of the same title. Dimitri Rassam (The Little Prince, Escobar: Paradise Lost) and Mimi Valdès (Roxanne Roxanne) are producing the project.

It was announced today that Nicholas Britell will team up with with dancer and choreographer Benjamin Millepied to score the upcoming musical drama Carmen. The film is inspired by French composer Georges Bizet’s opera and centers on a woman who travels from the deserts of Mexico to Los Angeles in search of freedom. No casting announcements have been made yet. Dimitri Rassam (The Little Prince, Upside Down) and Helen Estabrook (Whiplash, Casual) are producing the project.
