Blake Neely has announced at the composer panel Behind the Music: Composing for WonderCon’s Favorite Projects at last week’s WonderCon 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center that he is scoring the pilot of the new CW show Arrow. The modern retelling of the story of the DC Comics character Green Arrow stars Stephen Amell as the vigilante superhero who fights crime using archery, martial arts and technology under his secret identity as Oliver Queen, a wealthy playboy and billionaire industrialist-turned-outspoken politician in Star City. Katie Cassidy, Susanna Thompson, Willa Holland and Colin Salmon are co-starring in the pilot. The project is written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim (The Green Lantern) and Andrew Kreisberg (Fringe).

Fall 2011 Television Music Roundup (Part 5): ABC
In our fifth part of our fall television music series, we are taking a look at the new and returning shows on ABC:
The most successful new show of the season on the network is the fantasy drama Once Upon a Time created by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis (Lost) and starring Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Robert Carlyle, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jamie Dornan and Jared Gilmore. Blake Neely to Score ABC’s ‘Pan Am’
Blake Neely is set to score the upcoming ABC drama Pan Am. The show set in the 1960’s revolves around pilots and flight attendants working at the iconic and once-dominant Pan Am airline. The drama stars Christina Ricci in her first major TV gig, as well as Kelli Garner (The Aviator), Jonah Lotan (Generation Kill), Michael Mosley (Scrubs), Margot Robbie and Karine Vanasse. Jack Orman (ER, JAG) created the show and Thomas Schlamme (Parenthood, The West Wing) directed the pilot. Orman and Schlamme are also producing alongside Nancy Hult Ganis, who was a Pan Am flight attendant herself in the 70’s. Pan Am is scheduled to premiere this fall on ABC and will airing every Sunday night at 10:00pm.

Only one new movie is opening wide this weekend:
Matthew Vaughn’s comic book adaptation X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence and Rosamunde Pike is expected to top the weekend box office. The film’s music is written by Henry Jackman and a soundtrack album has been released digitally earlier this week by Sony Classical. A physical release will follow on June 28. Opening in limited release is the dramedy Beginners directed by Mike Mills and starring Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer and Melanie Laurent. The film’s score is composed by Roger Neill, David Palmer and Brian Reitzell. The movie also features a number of songs. Blake Neely to score Life as We Know It
Blake Neely has been hired to score the upcoming Warner Bros comedy Life as We Know It. In the movie, two single adults become caregivers to an orphaned girl when their mutual best friends die in an accident. The movie stars Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel and is directed by Greg Berlanti. Berlanti and Neely previously collaborated on such TV shows as Everwood, Eli Stone and Brothers & Sisters. Life as We Know It is scheduled to be released on December 22.
The Pacific soundtrack album announced
The score for the upcoming HBO mini-series The Pacific will be released on March 9 by Rhino Records. The music is by Hans Zimmer, Geoff Zanelli and Blake Neely. The epic 10-part miniseries is based on the true stories of World War II Marines. It tracks the intertwined real-life journeys of three U.S. Marines-Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe Mazzello), and John Basilone (Jon Seda)-across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theater during World War II. The miniseries follows these men and their fellow Marines from their first battle with the Japanese on Guadalcanal, through the rain forests of Cape Gloucester and the strongholds of Peleliu, across the bloody sands of Iwo Jima and through the horror of Okinawa, and finally to their triumphant but uneasy return home after V-J Day.
