Alan Silvestri has been chosen as this year’s guest of honor at this year’s World Soundtrack Awards. The composer’s music will be performed at the 15th anniversary edition of the event, conducted by Dirk Brossé and accompanied by film fragments on the big screen, during the 42nd Ghent Film Festival on October 24, 2015. Silvestri’s credits include numerous collaborations with director Robert Zemeckis including the Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Romancing the Stone, Cast Away, The Polar Express, Contact, Flight and Forrest Gump, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He also scored such films as Marvel’s The Avengers & Captain America: The First Avenger, the animated feature The Croods, the Night at the Museum trilogy, James Cameron’s The Abyss and The Mummy Returns.

Expanded ‘Intersection’ and ‘Soapdish’ Soundtracks Announced
Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1994 drama Intersection directed by Mark Rydell and starring Richard Gere, Sharon Stone, Lolita Davidovich and Martin Landau. The expanded soundtrack edition features the complete remastered original score from the Paramount Pictures production composed by James Newton Howard (The Hunger Games, The Sixth Sense, King Kong, Maleficent, The Fugitive), including previously unreleased music. Hollywood Bowl 2015 Season Schedule Announced
The Hollywood Bowl has announced this summer’s season schedule, which includes a number of film music concerts. On September 4/5/6, 2015, the Bowl will host its premiere performance of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial in Concert. The Los Angeles Philharmonic will be performing the film’s entire Academy Award-winning score from Steven Spielberg’s classic film composed by John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park) live-to-picture while the movie is shown in HD on the Bowl’s big screen. On Tuesday, June 30, the Bowl will also host the U.S. premiere of Back to the Future in Concet to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original movie.

Already playing in theaters since Wednesday is the fantasy adventure The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies directed by Peter Jackson and starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom. The film’s original music is composed by Howard Shore (The Silence of the Lambs, Hugo) who also scored the previous Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies. ‘Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb’ Soundtrack Details
Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack album for the family adventure Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. The album features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Captain America: The First Avenger) who previously scored the first two installments in the series. The soundtrack will be released physically on January 6, 2015 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD club series. The releases include an expanded soundtrack for the 1990 sci-fi action horror sequel Predator 2 directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Danny Glover, Kevin Peter Hall, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, María Conchita Alonso and Bill Paxton. The 2-CD deluxe edition features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away), including previously unreleased music. The composer previously composed the score for the first part in the series, which Varese Sarabande released for the first time in 2003. Alan Silvestri to Compose New Music for ‘Back to the Future’ 30th Anniversary Special Presentation
IMG Artists and the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency announced a new partnership with Universal Pictures today that will see Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future return to the big screen, accompanied by a live orchestra performing the film’s original score composed by Alan Silvestri (Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away, Captain America: The First Avenger). The events will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the movie starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Llyod and Lea Thompson. Silvestri will compose roughly 15 minutes of new material as part of the performance tour, which will have its world premiere screening and performance in Lucerne, Switzerland, performed by the 21st Century Symphony Orchestra, in May of 2015.

Quartet Records has announced the world premiere soundtrack release for two 80s comedies from Paramount Pictures, including 1985’s Summer Rental directed by Carl Reiner (The Man With Two Brains) and starring John Candy, Richard Crenna and Rip Thorn, as well as 1987’s Critical Condition directed by Michael Apted (The World Is Noe Enough, Nell) and starring Richard Pryor. Both scores are written and conducted by Academy Award-nominated composer Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away). Alan Silvestri, David Arnold & Michael Price Win Emmy Awards
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were handed out this afternoon at the NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Alan Silvestri won his first two Emmy Awards for both his score and his main titles theme music from Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. David Arnold and Michael Price were honored with their first Emmy for their work on the Sherlock episode His Last Vow after being nominated twice before for their work on the series in previous years. In the Outstanding Music & Lyrics category, Tom Kitt and Lin-Manuel Miranda received an Emmy for the song Bigger!, which was written for the 67 Tony Awards ceremony. Don Was was honored in the Outstanding Music Direction category for his work on The Beatles: The Night That Changed America.
Alan Silvestri to Score Robert Zemeckis’ ‘The Walk’
TriStar Pictures has announced that Alan Silvestri is reuniting with Robert Zemeckis on the upcoming drama The Walk. The movie stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale, Ben Schwartz, Charlotte Le Bon, Clément Sibony and César Domboy. The film is based on Philippe Petit’s book To Reach the Clouds and tells the true story of the French high-wire artist’s attempt to cross the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974. Zemeckis wrote the screenplay with Christopher Browne and is also producing the project with Steve Starkey (Forrest Gump, Contact) and Jack Rapke (Cast Away, Flight, Matchstick Men).
