Varese Sarabande has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1981 British spy thriller Eye of the Needle directed by Richard Marquand and starring Donald Sutherland, Kate Nelligan, Ian Bannen and Christopher Cazenove. The 2-CD set, which is limited to 2,000 copies, features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Academy Award winner Miklós Rózsa (Ben-Hur, Spellbound, King of Kings, Quo Vadis, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Ivanhoe), including the previously unreleased film recording performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on the first disc and the 13-track album version (previously released by Varese on CD and vinyl) performed by the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra on the second disc.

‘Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid’ Soundtrack Album Announced
Intrada Records has announced a new soundtrack release for the 1982 comedy Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid co-written and directed by Carl Reiner and starring Steve Martin, Rachel Ward, Alan Ladd, Reiner himself and Reni Santoni. The 2-CD set, which is being released as part of Universal Pictures’ Film Music Classics Collection features the film’s original music composed by Academy Award winner Miklós Rózsa (Ben-Hur, Spellbound, Quo Vadis, King of Kings, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Ivanhoe), including the complete score on the first disc and additional scoring cues and alternates on the second disc. ‘The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes’ 50th Anniversary Special Edition Soundtrack Announced
Quartet Records has announced a new soundtrack album for the 1970 classic The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes co-written and directed by Billy Wilder and starring Robert Stephens, Geneviève Page, Colin Blakely and Christopher Lee. The 2-CD set features the remastered original score from the MGM production composed and conducted by Miklós Rózsa (Ben-Hur, Spellbound, Quo Vadis, King of Kings, Ivanhoe) and performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra on the first disc, as well as all the source music from the movie (supervised by the composer), the premiere CD edition of the the piece Fantasy that Rózsa recorded for his album Rózsa Conducts Rózsa and a new remastering of the premiere recording of the violin concerto on which parts of the score are based.
Expanded ‘Predator 2’ and ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ Soundtracks Announced
Varese Sarabande has announced the latest titles in its CD club series. The releases include an expanded soundtrack for the 1990 sci-fi action horror sequel Predator 2 directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Danny Glover, Kevin Peter Hall, Gary Busey, Ruben Blades, María Conchita Alonso and Bill Paxton. The 2-CD deluxe edition features the film’s original music composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, The Avengers, Cast Away), including previously unreleased music. The composer previously composed the score for the first part in the series, which Varese Sarabande released for the first time in 2003.
