Three new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

hobbit-3Already playing in theaters since Wednesday is the fantasy adventure The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies directed by Peter Jackson and starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, Hugo Weaving and Orlando Bloom. The film’s original music is composed by Howard Shore (The Silence of the LambsHugo) who also scored the previous Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies. WaterTower Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music in two editions. For the full album details, check out our soundtrack announcement. secret-of-the-tombAlso opening wide is the sequel Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Steve Coogan, Ricky Gervais, Dan Stevens, Rebel Wilson and Ben Kingsley. The film’s original music is composed and conducted by Alan Silvestri (Back to the FutureForrest Gump, The Croods, The Avengers). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music digitally earlier this week. A CD version is set to be released on January 6. annieAlso opening nationwide is the musical Annie directed by Will Gluck and starring Quvenzhané Wallis, Cameron Diaz, Jamie Foxx, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Amanda Troya, Eden Duncan Smith, Nicolette Pierini and Zoe Colletti. Greg Kurstin has written the film’s original score, as well as some of the new songs. Roc Nation Records and Madison Gate Records have released a soundtrack album featuring the songs from the film performed by the movie’s cast, as well as Sia and Beck. mr-turnerOpening in limited release is the drama Mr. Turner written and directed by Mike Leigh and starring Timothy Spall, Dorothy Atkinson, Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson, Lesley Manville, Martin Savage, Joshua McGuire, Ruth Sheen, David Horovitch and Karl Johnson. The film’s original music is composed by Gary Yershon who collaborated with Leigh on Happy Go Lucky and Another Year. Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music. song-of-the-seaAlso opening in select markets is the animated feature Song of the Sea directed by Tomm Moore and featuring the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, Pat Shortt, Jon Kenny, Liam Hourican, Colm Ó’Snodaigh, Lucy O’Connell, Kevin Swierszcz, David Rawle and Lisa Hannigan. Bruno Coulais (CoralineThe Chorus) and Kila have composed the film’s original music. Decca Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the film’s original score, as well as songs by Nolwenn Leroy earlier this month.
