ASCAP recently uploaded a new interview with composer Ramin Djawadi, who just finished working on Clash of the Titans which premieres in theaters this weekend. In the interview, Djawadi talks about his collaboration with director Louis Leterrier, the scoring process on the movie, working with composer/producer Neil Davidge from Massive Attack, his general approach to scoring movies and his work on the TV show Flash Forward, which he is currently scoring. New Badelt scores available

Two new scores by composer Klaus Badelt have just been made available. Die Jagd nach der heiligen Lanze (The Lance) is a German TV fantasy adventure which just premiered on German TV earlier this week. The music was co-written by Klaus Badelt, Christopher Carmichael and Ian Honeyman. To watch a short interview with the composers about the scoring process, check out this video clip on YouTube. Carter Burwell to score The Kids Are All Right

Film Music Reporter has learned that Carter Burwell has been hired to score the comedy The Kids Are All Right. The movie had its premiere at this year’s Sundance film festival. The movie originally had a score by Nathan Larson and Craig Wedren and Burwell has stepped in to provide a score for the nationwide release in July by Focus Features. No word yet if any of Larson’s and Wedren’s score will stay in the picture. The movie centers around two children conceived by artificial insemination who bring their birth father into their family life. The movie directed by Lisa Cholodenko (Laurel Canyon) stars Julianne Moore, Anette Bening, Mark Ruffalo and Mia Wasikowska. Read the rest of this entry »

Two new projects for Randy Edelman

According to his official website, Randy Edelman has joined the new drama The Greening of Whitney Brown. The movie centers around Whitney, a spoiled pre-teen from Philadelphia, who is forced to move to the country where she befriends an amazing horse, and undertakes a misguided journey back to her old life. The movie stars Keith David, Brooke Shields, Aidan Quinn and Kris Kristofferson. No release date has been set yet for the film. For more information, check out the movie’s Facebook page. Prince of Persia soundtrack announced

Walt Disney Records will release the soundtrack album for Price of Persia: The Sands of Time on May 25. The album includes 18 track of Harry Gregson-William’s score, as well as the song I Remain performed by Alanis Morissette. The movie produced by Jerry Bruckheimer starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ben Kingsley will be released  on May 28.

New interview with Danny Elfman

In the interview, Elfman talks about his score for Alice in Wonderland, working with Tim Burton, his two upcoming projects The Green Hornet and Restless and his creative approach and process to scoring movies. Two new Varese Sarabande soundtracks

Varese Sarabande has announced two new CD releases to be released in May. The label will release Marc Streitenfeld’s score for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. The movie stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett and opens in theaters on May 14. The movie marks Streitenfeld’s fourth collaboration with director Ridley Scott after American Gangster, A Good Year and Body of Lies. The album will be released on May 11.

On the same day, Varese Sarabande will also release Edward Shearmur’s score for the drama Mother and Child. The movie stars Naomi Watts, Annette Benning, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington and Jimmy Smits and reunites Shearmur with director Rodrigo Garcia (Nine Lives, Passengers). The movie will be released by Sony Pictures Classics on May 7. Brian Tyler to score Hawaii Five-O

Brian Tyler has been hired to score the pilot of the TV show Hawaii Five-O. The show is based on the classic TV show from the 60’s with the same name revolving around an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police. The show’s cast include Daniel Dae Kim, Alex O’Loughlin, Grace Park, James Marsters and Scott Caan. The show will be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci, who wrote and produced episodes of Fringe and Alias and wrote such features as The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Star Trek and both Transformers movies. They also produced the DJ Caruso-directed Eagle Eye, which was scored by Brian Tyler. Hawaii Five-O will air on CBS starting this fall if it gets picked up. Straw Dogs score released

Intrada Records announced today the world premiere release of Jerry Fielding’s score for Straw Dogs. The movie from 1971 directed by Sam Peckinpah (The Wild Bunch) stars Dustin Hoffman. In the movie, a young American and his English wife come to rural England and face increasingly vicious local harassment. Intrada is releasing the complete score limited to 2000 copies including about 42 minutes of music. Patrick Doyle to score new animation

Patrick Doyle will provide the score for the upcoming animated feature Sir Billi. In the movie, a retired veterinarian living in a remote Scottish village encounters a goat who thinks he’s a dog, an Admiral who’s afraid of the water and a beaver who was raised by rabbits. The movie’s voice talent includes Sean Connery, Alan Cumming and Miriam Margolyes. Doyle himself is also going to voice one of the characters in the film.
