Zarvos and Levinson to reunite on HBO movie

Marcelo Zarvos recently finished work on his score for the HBO biopic You Don’t Know Jack. The projects marks Zarvos’ second collaboration with award-winning director Barry Levinson who previously worked together on the satire What Just Happened?. You Don’t Know Jack offers a look at the life and work of doctor-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian, played by Al Pacino. Pacino is joined by Danny Huston, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman. Brooklyn’s Finest, another Zarvos project opens in theaters today. The score to the crime thriller directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes will be released by Varese Sarabande Records on March 23. Read the rest of this entry »

Giacchino to host Academy Event

Film Music Reporter has learned that Michael Giacchino will host an evening of Animation & Classical Music on May 14 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA. The event is organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and if previous events of the Academy are any indication, the evening will feature many appearances by special guests of the film music industry. Tickets will go on sale on April 28 at www.oscars.org and more details on the event will be announced soon.

Chloe soundtrack album announced

Silva Screen Records will release Mychael Danna’s score for the erotic thriller drama Chloe on March 22. The music has been describes as a lush, Bernard Herrman-style score. The movie is directed by Atom Egoyan (Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter, Where The Truth Lies, Felicia’s Junrney, Ararat, Adoration) who regularly works with Danna. Chloe stars Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore and will be released in late march by Sony Pictures Classics.

Elfman to score Gus Van Sant’s Restless

In a recent interview with Collider, Elfman confirmed that he will score Gus Van Sant’s upcoming drama Restless (previously untitled). The movie revolves around a teenage boy and girl who share a preoccupation with mortality. The movie is produced by Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard. Restless stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland). Restless marks Elfman’s fifth collaboration with Van Sant after To Die For, Good Will Hunting, Psycho and Milk. A release date for the movie produced by Imagine Entertainment has yet to be announced.

Elfman will score the movie before he starts working on Michel Gondry’s The Green Hornet. The comic book adaptation starring Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, Christoph Waltz and Tom Wilkinson. The movie is scheduled to be released this December by Sony Pictures.

Reitzell slated to score The Beaver and Goats

Brian Reitzell has been announced to score the Jodie Foster-directed comedy drama The Beaver. Mel Gibson plays a depressed toy company CEO with a failed marriage starts to wear a beaver puppet on his hand as a form of therapy, much to the initial bemusement of his family. The movie co-stars Jodie Foster and Anton Yelchin. Summit Entertainment will release the film later this year.

Reitzell has also been hired to score the upcoming comedy Goats. The movie is the directorial debut of Christopher Neill, who regularly works as an acting coach and rehearsal advisor. His credits include The Virgin Suicides, Being John Malkovich and Marie-Antoinette. Sofia Coppola, who collaborated with Reitzell on Lost in Translation and Marie-Antoinette will serve as an executive producer on the movie, which is expected to shoot next month. Expanded Fantastic Mr. Fox score released

ABKCO Records just released an expanded version of Alexandre Desplat’s score from Fantastic Mr. Fox (The Abbey Road Mixes). The album includes 47 minutes of the Academy-Award nominated score. The release comes as a surprise, especially since 24 minutes of the score has already been released on the official soundtrack including the songs featured in the animated picture. At this time, the album is a download-only release and can be found on iTunes and Amazon.

Korzeniowski set to score Rabbit Hole

Abel Korzeniowski has been hired to score the drama Rabbit Hole. The movie directed by John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) stars Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart. The movie about a couple trying to cope with the death of their four-year-old child in a car accident will be released later this year.

The project marks Korzeniowski’s first score after his critically acclaimed score for A Single Man, received a Golden Globe nomination earlier this year.

Alex Heffes to score The Rite

Alex Heffes will write the score for the upcoming supernatural thriller The Rite. The movie will be directed by Mikael Hafstrom (Derailed, Gabriel Yared, Shanghai) and Anothony Hopkins is expected to lead the cast. Hafstrom and Heffes previously worked together on Shanghai, but his score for the yet to be released movie was ultimately replaced by Klaus Badelt. The Rite follows a disillusioned American seminary student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds his faith through encounters with demonic forces. A release date for the Warner Bros/New Line production has yet to be announced.

Heffes is also working on a feature length documentary about the economic crisis directed by Charles Ferguson (No End in Sight). The movie is expected to come out later this year by Sony Pictures Classics.

Michael Wandmacher to Drive Angry

Evolution Music Partners has announced that Michael Wandmacher will score the upcoming action thriller Drive Angry. The movie will be the second collaboration between Wandmacher and director Patrick Lussier who worked together on last year’s My Bloody Valentine. The 3D movie about a vengeful father chases after the men who killed his daughter stars Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard and is scheduled to be released on February 11, 2011 by Summit Entertainment.

Wandmacher also has Piranha 3-D coming out this August. The horror movie was directed by Alexandre Aja and stars Eli Roth, Elisabeth Shue, Christopher Llyod and Ving Rhames.
