Hans Zimmer has been tapped to score the superhero sequel The American Spider-Man 2. The film is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Denis Leary, Colm Feore, Chris Cooper, Sally Field, Chris Zylka, Marton Csokas and Felicity Jones. In the sequel, Peter Parker/Spider-Man faces a new villain, Electro, deals with the return of his old friend Harry Osborn and uncovers new clues about his past. Avi Arad (X-Men, Iron Man, Hulk) is producing the project with Matt Tolmach. Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) & Jeff Pinkner (Alias, Fringe) have written the screenplay with a previous draft by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, White House Down).

Three new movies are opening in wide release this week:
Already in theaters since this past Tuesday is the comic boot film reboot The Amazing Spider-Man directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, as well as Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary. The film’s music is composed and conducted by James Horner. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. Also opening wide is the crime drama Savages directed by Oliver Stone and starring Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Benicio Del Toro, Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch, Demian Bichir, Joel David Moore and John Travolta. Adam Peters has composed the film’s original score. Back Lot Music and Varese Sarabande have released a soundtrack album featuring selections from the score, as well as some of the movie’s songs by artists including Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation. James Horner In Talks to Score ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’
Music editor Jim Henrikson has revealed in a recent interview with SCOREcast Online that James Horner is in talks to score the upcoming comic book adaptation reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man. While the assignment has not been confirmed to us yet, Henrikson who has been Horner’s primary music editor over the last two decades said that the assignment “is pretty well set” at the time of the interview (which was conducted right before the recording sessions of the historical epic Cristiada in May).
