Badass Digest is reporting that Trent Reznor has been tapped to score the upcoming horror thriller Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The film based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith is directed by Timur Bekmambetov, who most recently collaborated with composer Danny Elfman on 2008’s Wanted starring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman. Tim Burton is also involved in the project as a producer. The movie stars Benjamin Walker, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anthony Mackie. The film’s story portrays the 16th president as an ax-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin. Apart from scoring the film, Reznor is also expected to appear as a vampire in the movie. 20th Century Fox will release Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in 3D on June 22, 2012. Rob Simonsen scoring ‘LOL’

Rob Simonsen has been hired to score the upcoming comedy LOL. The film is written and directed by Lisa Azuelos and is a remake of her French 2008 film LOL (Laughing Out Loud) ® starring Sophie Marceau. The comedy stars Miley Cyrus, Ashley Greene, Thomas Jane and Demi Moore. The movie takes place in a world dominated by social media and centers on a teenage girl who is dumped by her older boyfriend while her divorced mother struggles to move on with her life. Last weekend, George Fenton performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for the first part in the orchestra’s Masters of Film Music series. Selections from Fenton’s scores including Dangerous Liaisons, Ever After and Anna and the King were performed and Andy Tennant, director and long time collaborator of Fenton (most recently on The Bounty Hunter, Fool’s Gold and Hitch) was providing guest narration. ‘Money Train’ Soundtrack released

La-La Land Records has released a limited edition soundtrack for the 1995 action thriller Money Train. The album features more than 40 minutes from Mark Mancina’s original score from the film. Abel Korzeniowski is scoring the upcoming romantic drama W.E. The film is directed by Madonna, who also co-wrote the screenplay for the film. The movie stars Abbie Cornish, Natalie Dormer, Richard Coyle, Oscar Isaac and James D’Arcy. The drama tells the parallel love stories between Wallis Simpson and King Edward VIII and a modern romance in the 80’s. The project marks Korzeniowski’s first feature film scoring assignment since his Golden Globe-nominated score for 2009’s drama A Single Man starring Colin Firth. The composer was originally assigned to score last year’s Rabbit Hole starring Nicole Kidman, but Anton Sanko ended up taking over the job. No release date for W.E has been announced, but Madonna recently presented footage from the film at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and it is expected to open later this year. Film Music Reporter has learned that Alan Silvestri has signed on to score the upcoming comic book movie Captain America: The First Avenger. The film marks the first collaboration between Silvestri and director Joe Johnston, who previously has worked with such composers as James Horner, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard and Mark Isham. The film also marks Silvestri’s first scoring assignment since last year’s summer action film The A-Team and his first comic book adaptation since 1995’s Judge Dredd starring Sylvester Stallone. A number of composers, including Michael Giacchino and John Powell have been rumored to take the scoring assignment, but ultimately Silvestri was hired to score the film. Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper is scheduled to open on July 21, 2011. Read the rest of this entry »

Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming animated film Mars Needs Moms. The soundtrack features about 50 minutes of the original score by Academy Award-nominated composer John Powell. The album will be released digitally on March 8, 2011. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have won the Oscar for their original score for David Fincher’s The Social Network. The award marks the first Oscar win for both composers, who both have been nominated for the first time. The score beat out Alexandre Desplat’s The King’s Speech, Hans Zimmer’s Incpetion, John Powell’s How to Train Your Dragon and A.R. Rahman’s 127 Hours.

In the Best Song category, Randy Newman won the Oscar for his original song We Belong Together from Toy Story 3.

Film Music Reporter has learned that Mark Mothersbaugh has been hired to score the upcoming crime thriller Safe. In the movie, a former elite agent rescues a young Chinese girl carrying vital secrets that both the Chinese and Russian Mafia are intent on obtaining in order to blackmail world governments. The film starring Jason Statham, Chris Sarandon and Robert John Burke is directed by Boaz Yakin. Yakin previously worked with composers Trevor Rabin (Remember the Titans), Joel McNeely (Uptown Girls), Lesley Barber (A Price Above Rubies, Death in Love) and Stewart Copeland (Fresh) on his earlier movies. The film is produced by Lawrence Bender (producer on all Quentin Tarantino-directed movies), as well as Dana Brunetti and Kevin Spacey (The Social Network) through their company Trigger Street Productions. Richard Gibbs is currently scoring the upcoming comedy Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. The movie is based on is based on characters from Megan McDonald’s children’s book series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedy chronicles Judy Moody’s determination to have the most thrilling summer of her life, aided by her brother Stink and her fun-loving Aunt Opal. The film is directed by John Schultz and stars Jordana Beatty in the title role, Heather Graham and Jaleel White. Schultz and Gibbs previously collaborated on 2002’s Like Mike, 2003’s When Zachary Beaver Came to Town and 2005’s The Honeymooners. Schultz has also most recently worked together with composer John Debney on Aliens in the Attic.
