Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Scream 4 reunites director Wes Craven with composer Marco Beltrami. Two different soundtracks have been released for the horror sequel. A score album featuring Beltrami’s music will be released next Tuesday and a song soundtrack with two score tracks is available on Lakeshore Records. Also opening is the animated feature Rio, which already opened in several foreign territories last weekend generating the highest grossing international opening of the year. The film’s score is by John Powell and Sergio Mendes served as the movie’s executive music producer. Rio‘s music team also includes percussionist Carlinhos Brown, lyricist Siedah Garrett, pop singer Taio Cruz and The Black Eyed Peas’ Will.i.am. A score album will be released next week by Varese Sarabande and the official soundtrack featuring the film’s songs is already out on Interscope Records. Read the rest of this entry »

C.C. Adcock is scoring the upcoming black comedy Killer Joe. The movie stars Matthew McConaughey, Emile Hirsch, Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple. The film is based on a play by Tracy Letts (Bug) about a family who hires a police detective-turned-hitman to kill their mother for her life insurance policy. Killer Joe is directed by William Friedkin. The Academy Award-winning director has worked with composer Brian Tyler on his two most recent features (The Hunted, Bug). Five-time Oscar nominee Caleb Deschanel is lensing the picture. C.C. Adcock is best known as a rock’n roll musician, noted for his electric blues and swamp pop-influenced sound. ‘Bridesmaids’ Soundtrack announced

Relativity Music Group has announced a soundtrack release for the comedy Bridesmaids. The album features one score track by composer Michael Andrews, as well as several songs from the movie. Artists on the soundtrack include Wilson Phillips, Blondie, Fiona Apple, Kate Nash and Hole. The album will be released on May 10, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. According to a press release by Sony Pictures Classics, Alberto Iglesias has been hired to write the music for the upcoming drama Carnage. The film is directed by Roman Polanski and stars Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz and John C. Reilly. The movie is an adaptation of the Tony-winning play God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza who is also responsible for adapting the play to the screen with Polanski. Carnage centers on two pairs of parents one of whose child has hurt the other at a public park, who meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish, resulting in the evening devolving into chaos. The movie marks Iglesias’ first collaboration with the Academy Award-winning director who most recently worked with Alexandre Desplat on last year’s The Ghost WriterRead the rest of this entry »

Deborah Lurie is writing the score for the upcoming remake of Footloose. The film is directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, Black Snake Moan) and stars Kenny Wormaid, Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell. The movie is a remake of the 1984 hit film directed by Herbert Ross and starring Kevin Bacon, Lori Singer, John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest. Miles Goodman served as the music adaptor on the original film. The remake is said to focus more on the drama of the original movie about a city kid who moves to a conservative town where dancing and rock music has been banned and less on elaborate musical numbers of the Footloose stage adaptation. Lakeshore Records has announced a score soundtrack release for the animated film Hoodwinked Too! Hood VS. Evil. The album includes the original score by Murray Gold (Doctor Who, Torchwood) and will be released digitally on April 26, 2011 and on CD on May 17. To pre-order the soundtrack, visit Amazon. Hoodwinked Too is directed by Mike Disa and features the voice talent of Glenn Close, Cheech and Chong, Hayden Panetierre, Bill Hader, Amy Poehler, Martin Short, Brad Garrett and Joan Cusack. Cliff Martinez has signed on to score the upcoming action thriller Drive. The film based on James Sallis’ crime novel of the same name and adapted for the screen by Hossein Amini (the Wings of the Dove, The Four Feathers) revolves around a Hollywood stunt drive who moonlights as a getaway driver in L.A.’s criminal underworld. He finds himself a target after agreeing to aid the ex-con boyfriend of his beautiful neighbor in a job that goes dangerously awry. The movie stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Christina Hendricks, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Ron Perlman and Oscar Isaacs. Drive is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn who is best known for directing the Pusher trilogy and 2008’s action biopic Bronson. The first trailer of the upcoming teen comedy Monte Carlo recently surfaced online. A closer look to the trailer’s credits reveals that a soundtrack album for the film will be released by Varese Sarabande Records. Given the label’s relationship with composer Michael Giacchino, we expect the album to feature the original score from the movie. Monte Carlo tells the story of a girl and her best friend who travel to Paris with one girl’s future stepsister, where one of the girls is mistaken for a spoiled British heiress, which leads the girls to find themselves going on a dream vacation to Monte Carlo. The movie stars Leighton Meester, Selena Gomez, Katie Cassidy and Andie MacDowell. The film reunites Giacchino with director Tom Bezucha who previosuly worked with the composer on the holiday drama The Family Stone. Read the rest of this entry »

Rolfe Kent is currently scoring the upcoming family comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins. The movie is an adaptation of the beloved 1938 children’s book and stars Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino, Madeline Carroll and Angela Lansbury. The film centers on a New York business man who suddenly inherits six penguins and must find out that taking care of the animals is no easy matter as he quickly hits major hurtles, both at home and at work. Mr. Popper’s Penguins is directed by Mark Waters who has collaborated with Kent on most of his theatrical features (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Just Like Heaven, Mean Girls, Freaky Friday and The House of Yes), while his last movie The Spiderwick Chronicles featured a score by James Horner. 20th Century Fox has set a June 17, 2011 release date for the movie. ‘Fast Five’ Score Album Details

Varese Sarabande Records has announced the details of the score soundtrack release of the action sequel Fast Five. The album features around 75 minutes of Brian Tyler’s original score from the film and will be released on May 3, 2011.  To pre-order the album, visit Amazon.
