C7nema recently reported that Howard Shore is attached to reunite with his long term collaborator David Cronenberg to write the score for the upcoming drama Cosmopolis. The film based on the Don DeLillo tome is adapted for the screen by Cronenberg and follows a multimillionaire who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day. The movie stars Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche and Paul Giamatti. Cronenberg and Shore have previously collaborated numerous times, most recently on A History of Violence and Eastern Promises. Edward Shearmur Slated to Score John Singleton’s ‘Abduction’

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Edward Shearmur has been tapped to score the upcoming thriller Abduction. The film centers on a young man who discovers his own baby picture on a missing persons website and sets out to uncover the truth about his life. The movie is directed by John Singleton who has been using composer David Arnold on his previous four feature films (Shaft, Baby Boy, 2 Fast 2 Furious and Four Brothers) and has also worked with John Williams on the 1997 film Rosewood. Paul Grabowsky recently recorded his score for the upcoming drama The Eye of the Storm. The film is set in a Sydney suburb, where two nurses, a housekeeper and a solicitor attend to Elizabeth Hunter as her expatriate son and daughter convene at her deathbed. The movie stars Charlotte Rampling, Geoffrey Rush, Dustin Clare, Judy Davis and is directed by Fred Schepisi. The director worked with Grabowsky on his last three projects Last Orders, It Runs in the Family and Empire Falls and is best known in the film music community for his collaborations with Jerry Goldsmith on such movies as The Russia House, Mr. Baseball, I.Q. and Fierce Creatures. Ilan Eshkeri has recently recorded his score for the British thriller Retreat. The film is directed by Carl Tibbetts and stars Jamie Bell, Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton. The movie centers on a married couple who rent a cottage on a remote island to fix their marriage. Their plans are cut short when a soldier wearing a biohazard suit washes up on the beach claiming that everyone on the mainland has been killed by a virus. Eshkeri’s score features violin solos by Jack Liebeck who recently performed on Dario Marianelli’s score for Jane Eyre. Composer Michael Brook who is coming off his arguably most successful year, having scored the Oscar-winning drama The Fighter has a number of movies coming up this year. Opening this spring is the thriller Wrecked. The film stars Adrien Brody and marks the feature directing debut of Michael Greenspan. In the movie, a man wakes up from a car wreck at the bottom of a cliff, having no memory of who he is or how he got there, leaving him forced to discover his true identity. The film is now available on Video on Demand and opens in theaters on April 1 in New York and April 8 in Los Angeles. Theodore Shapiro has been hired to score the upcoming comedy The Change-Up. The film tells the story of a married guy who accidentally changes bodies with his single best friend and ends up pursuing a female coworker. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Jason Bateman, Leslie Mann, Alan Arkin and Olivia Wilde. The film is written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover) and directed by David Dobkin. Dobkin previously worked together with composers Randy Edelman (Shanghai Knights), Rolfe Kent (The Wedding Crashers) and Christophe Beck (Fred Claus) on his previous movies. Michael Giacchino Scoring ‘The Ballad of Nessie’

Michael Giacchino will be providing the music for Walt Disney Animation Studio’s short The Ballad of Nessie. Disney’s press release describes the short as “a whimsical and colorful tall tale about the friendly Loch Ness monster, Nessie, and how she and her best friend MacQuack the rubber duck came to live in the moor they now call home”. Scottish comedian Billy Connolly is narrating the film, which is animated in the classic Disney hand-drawn style. The short movie is directed by Stevie Wermers-Skelton and Kevin Deters who previously worked with Giacchino on 2009’s Emmy-winning animated short Prep Landing. Giacchino also has previously scored numerous shorts for Pixar, including the Academy Award-nominated films Day & Night, Partly Cloudy, Lifted and One Man Band. Read the rest of this entry »

Danny Elfman to Write Music for Disneyland Hong Kong’s ‘Mystic Manor’ ride

Danny Elfman has signed on to compose music for the ride Mystic Manor at Disneyland Hong Kong. The attraction is a new version based on the classic Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland in California and is due to make its debut in early 2013.
