Walt Disney Records recently announced a new collection of remixes of Daft Punk’s orginal music from the movie Tron: Legacy. The album features 15 tracks of reworks of Daft Punk’s score from electronic music artists including Paul Oakenfold, The Crystal Method and Moby. The compilation will be released on April 5, 2011 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon. The original Tron: Legacy soundtrack album was one of the most successful soundtrack releases of recent times and the first score album to enter the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts since 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. Michael Wandmacher is writing the music for the upcoming TV workplace comedy Breaking In. The show starring Christian Slater, Odette Yustman, Jareb Dauplaise, Jennifer Irwin, Trevor Moore, Michael Rosenbaum, Bret Harrison and Alphonso McAuley centers around an eclectic team of twentysomething geniuses who work at a high tech security firm and who are assigned to break into computer security systems. Breaking In is produced by Adam F. Goldberg and Seth Gordon. ‘Scream 4’ Soundtrack Status

Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the upcoming horror sequel Scream 4. The soundtrack includes 10 songs from the movies from such artists as The Sounds, Ida Maria, The Novocains, The Chain Gang of 1974, 6 Day Riot and Locksey. In addition, the album contains 2 score cues by composer Marco Beltrami. The soundtrack will be released on April 12, 2011 and can be pre-ordered at Amazon. A separate score album featuring Beltrami’s score has been announced to be released on April 19 by Varese Sarabande Records. Details on the score album will be posted when they become available. Film Music Reporter has learned that Thomas Newman is currently writing the score for the upcoming drama The Help. The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Kathryn Stockett about the conflicted and complex relationships between Southern women and their housekeepers at the beginning of the civil rights movement. In the film, an aspiring writer in 1960s Mississippi sets out to write a book chronicling the way black maids are being treated by society. The movie stars Emma Stone, Allison Janney, Sissy Spacek, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Mike Vogel and Cicely Tyson. The Help is directed by Tate Taylor who made his directorial feature debut on 2008’s Pretty Ugly People. The project marks the director’s first studio picture. Read the rest of this entry »
Javier Navarrete to Score ‘Hemingway & Gellhorn’

Scoremagacine is reporting that Javier Navarette has signed on to score the upcoming HBO drama Hemingway & Gellhorn. The biopic focuses on the romance between Ernest Hemingway and WWII correspondent Martha Gellhorn, Hemingway’s inspiration for For Whom the Bell Tolls and the only woman who ever asked for a divorce from the writer. The film is directed by Philip Kaufman and stars Clive Owen, Nicole Kidman, David Strathairn, Parker Posey, Rodrigo Santoro, Molly Parker, Lars Ulrich, Peter Coyote, Diane Baker and Tony Shalhoub. Trevor Morris to Score Oren Peli’s ‘The River’

Trevor Morris has been hired to score the upcoming TV drama pilot The River. The thriller/horror show centers on a family who travels to the deep Amazon to locate and rescue their missing father. The show’s cast includes Bruce Greenwood, Leslie Hope, Joe Anderson and Thomas Kretschmann. The River is created by the Paranormal Activity writer and director Oren Peli, who co-wrote the pilot with Michael Perry (Paranormal Activity 2). The show’s pilot marks the TV directing debut of Jaume Collet-Serra whose thriller Unknown starring Liam Neeson is currently in theaters. He also previously directed the features House of Wax and Orphan. The River is said to be shot in a cinema verite-style, akin to Peli’s Paranormal Activity. The show is produced by ABC Studios and DreamWorks’ TV division. It is expected that Morris will be scoring the show if it gets picked up by ABC for next TV season.
John Powell Confirmed to Score ‘The Lorax’

A press release from Universal Pictures has confirmed this week that John Powell is writing the music for the upcoming animated feature The Lorax. The film based on the book by Dr. Seuss centers around a boy who searches for a way to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. He comes across the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world. The film’s voice talent includes Danny DeVito, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, Rob Riggle and Betty White. The movie is directed by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul (writers of Horton Hears a Who! and Despicable Me), as well as Chris Renaud (co-director of Despicable Me). The Lorax is the third feature from Illumination Entertainment after last year’s surprise hit Despicable Me (with music by Heitor Pereira and Pharrell Williams) and the upcoming Hop (scored by Christopher Lennertz). Powell has previously scored Blue Sky Studios’ Horton Hears a Who!, which was produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and was also based on a Dr. Seuss book. Read the rest of this entry »
Theodore Shapiro to Score ‘The Pirates! Band of Misfits’

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Theodore Shapiro will make his animation scoring debut on the upcoming film The Pirates! Band of Misfits. The film’s story follows the fortunes of a cheerful but hapless pirate band as they cross the seven seas in search of adventure. The Aardman Animations-produced movie is directed by Peter Lord who is best known for his collaborations with Nick Park on the Wallace & Gromit series and the 2000 feature film Chicken Run, which he co-directed alongside Park. More recently, he also produced the Aardman Animations production Flushed Away and is involved in the upcoming animated film Arthur Christmas, which has Michael Giacchino attached to write the music. The Pirates! is co-directed by Jeff Newitt who previously worked as an animator on Aardman’s Chicken Run and Flushed Away. Not much is known about he project at this point, but it has been announced that The Pirates! will be created with the hand-crafted claymation/stop-motion technique that Aardman is known for and that the movie will be released in 3D. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:
The sci-fi comedy Paul is directed Greg Mottola and stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Sigourney Weaver, Kristen Wiig, Jane Lynch, Jason Bateman, Bill Hader and Seth Rogen as the voice of Paul. The film’s original score is composed by David Arnold. A soundtrack release including Arnold’s score, as well as several songs from the movie has already been released in Europe as reported here. The album is scheduled to come out on April 4, 2011 in the US.
Also opening today is Brad Furman’s legal thriller starring Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, John Leguizamo, Ryan Phillippe and William H. Macy. ‘The Music Never Stopped’ Soundtrack released

Rhino Media has released a soundtrack album for the drama The Music Never Stopped. The album includes one track from Paul Cantelon’s original score, as well as several songs from Grateful Dead, including three previously unreleased live recordings. Other artists featured on the soundtrack are Peggy Lee, Bob Dylan, Steppenwolf, Donovan,The Tulips and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The soundtrack is currently available digitally on Amazon and iTunes and will be released on CD on March 29, 2011. The Music Never Stopped stars J.K. Simmons, Lou Taylor Pucci, Julia Ormond, Tammy Blanchard and Mia Maestro and marks the feature directorial debut for Jim Kohlberg. Roadside Attractions is opening the movie today in limited release.
