Watertower Music has revealed the details of the upcoming soundtrack release for Green Lantern. As previously announced, the album includes James Newton Howard‘s original score from the comic book adaptation. The soundtrack features 18 tracks for a running time of over 52 minutes. The album will be released on June 14, 2011 and will be available to download on Amazon. Check out audio clips from each track below. ‘Elena’ Features Music by Philip Glass

The Russian drama Elena recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Composer Philip Glass wrote an original score for the movie. The film is directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev who is best known for helming the 2003 drama The Return, which received a Golden Globe nomination for best foreign language film. Elena centers on an elderly woman who has lived with her rich husband in a large, comfortable home and tries to rescue her alcoholic son from poverty and give his family the opportunity for a better life that she alone could not provide. Christopher Tyng (Futurama , Rescue Me) is scoring the new legal drama Suits. The show created by Aaron Korsh and starring Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Rick Hoffman and Gina Torres centers on a top Manhattan corporate lawyer who recruits a brilliant but unmotivated college dropout as a new associate. Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) who has worked with Tyng on multiple TV shows, including The OC, Knight Rider and Covert Affairs is executive producing the show. Kevin Bray directed the pilot. Suits (formerly known as A Legal Mind) is set to premiere on June 23, 2011 on USA and the first season of 12 episodes will be airing every Thursday night. Read the rest of this entry »

Only one movie is opening wide this weekend:
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides directed by Rob Marshall and starring Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Penelope Cruzis is the fourth entry in the adventure series. The film’s music is composed by Hans Zimmer featuring Rodrigo y Gabriela. A soundtrack album including selections from the score, as well as number of remixes has been released on Tuesday by Walt Disney Records. Opening in limited release today is Woody Allen’s comedy Midnight in Paris starring Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Adrien Brody, Carla Bruni, Marion Cottilard and Michael Sheen. As most movies by the director, the film doesn’t have an original score, but features several songs. Alan Menken to Write Music for Dreamworks Animation’s ‘Lidsville’

Alan Menken has revealed in a recent posting on Twitter that he is in talks to work on the Dreamworks Animation musical Lidsville. The project would be the first non-Disney animation project for the multiple Academy Award-winning composer. The film is based on characters developed by Sid and Marty Krofft (Land of the Lost) from the 1970’s TV series of the same name. In the movie, a rebellious kid falls into an alternate reality world of living hats and talking caps. Conrad Vernon, who directed the animated hits Shrek 2 and Monsters vs Aliens brought the project to Dreamworks. The Krofft brothers will serve as exectuive producers on the production. ‘X-Men: Fist Class’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Masterworks has revealed the details for the upcoming soundtrack release for X-Men: First Class. The album features 20 tracks of Henry Jackman‘s original score for the comic book adaptation. The album will be released on June 21, 2011 and is currently available to pre-order on Amazon. As reported earlier this month, the album is listed to be released overseas on June 6, 2011 at the moment (check out the alternate cover art below). X-Men: First Class directed by Matthew Vaughn tells the origin story of the characters of the X-Men series including Magneto and Professor X. Mark Bradshaw to Score ‘Resistance’

Mark Bradshaw has signed on to score the upcoming World War II drama Resistance. The film based on a novel by Owen Sheer takes place in an alternative 1944, where Russia has fallen to Nazi Germany and the D-Day landings have failed. The story centers on a group of women in an isolated Welsh village who wake up to discover all of the their husbands have mysteriously vanished. The movie is directed by Amit Gupta and stars Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen. Richard Holmes (Waking Ned Devine, Eden Lake) and Amanda Faber are producing. Rachel Portman was originally attached to score the project as reported by the Hollywood Reporter last fall, but had to leave the production due to a scheduling conflict. Sony Masterworks will release a soundtrack album for the upcoming drama Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. The album includes the original score from the film by Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman. The music was recorded at Angel Studios in London. Details on the album’s contents will be published in the next couple of weeks. The soundtrack will be released on July 12, 2011. Visit Amazon to pre-order the album. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan directed by Wayne Wang is set in 19th century China and centers on the lifelong friendship between two girls who develop their own secret code as a way to contend with the rigid cultural norms imposed on women. Mervyn Warren to Score ‘Joyful Noise’

Mervyn Warren is set to score the gospel-choir comedy Joyful Noise. The film centers on an unlikely partnership between two strong-minded women who are forced to work together to save a small town gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut them down. The movie stars Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton, Keke Palmer, Kris Kristofferson, Courtney B. Vance and Jesse L. Martin. Todd Graff (Bandslam, Camp) is writing and directing the film. Warren has already been working on the Alcon Entertainment production for several months, as he is also arranging and producing about a dozen songs for the film and he will next be starting to write the orchestral score. The project will be the first major feature scoring assignment in a while for the composer who has scored such films as The Wedding Planner, A Walk to Remember and Honey. Warner Bros has set a January 12, 2012 release date for Joyful Noise.
