In our second part of this summer’s roundup of television scores, we’re taking a look at the new and returning shows on FX, ABC Family and Starz. Also visit our previous article featuring shows on ABC, NBC, CBS, USA and Showtime.

FX:

The only new show this summer on FX is the comedy Wilfred. The show stars Elijah Wood as a depressed and unemployed worker who imagines seeing a man in a dog costume. Jason Gann and Fiona Gubelmann are co-starring and guest stars include Ed Helms, Chris Klein and Rashida Jones. Jim Dooley (Pushing Daisies, Obsessed) is providing the score for the show. Wilfred is based on an Australian series with the same title and is adapted by David Zuckerman (Family Guy, American Dad). Randall Einhorn (The Office, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) directed the pilot. The show’s first season of 13 episodes is currently airing every Thursday night on FX. ‘The Smurfs’ Score Album Details

As reported last week, Madison Gate Records will be releasing a score album for the live-action/animated hyrbid film adaptation of The Smurfs. Details have now been announced for the album featuring the original score by composer Heitor Pereira (Despicable Me, Beverly Hills Chihuaha). The album will be released on July 26, 2011 and the on-demand CDR is available for pre-order on Amazon. The album will also be available digitally on the same day. Gabriel Mann is the composer of the upcoming CW drama Ringer. The show stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (in her first TV show since Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a woman on the run, who assumes her twin sister’s identity, only to discover that her sister’s life is just as complicated and dangerous as the one she’s trying to escape. Nestor Carbonell (Lost), Ioann Gruffudd (Fantastic Four), Kristoffer Polaha (Mad Men) and Tara Summers (Boston Legal) are co-starring. Pam Veasey (CSI: NY), Peter Traugott (Samantha Who?) and Richard Shephard (The Matador, The Hunting Party) are executive producing the drama. Shephard also directed the project’s pilot. Varese Sarabande has published the details for the soundtrack release of John Carpenter’s horror thriller The Ward. The album features the original score written by Mark Kilian. The soundtrack will be released on August 16, 2011 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Ward stars Amber Heard, Lyndsy Fonseca, Danielle Panabaker, Jared Harris and Mamie Gummer. The film about a woman who becomes terrorized by a ghost in a mental institution has been released in select theaters on July 8 and is now available on video-on-demand. Two new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

The comic book adaptation Captain America:The First Avenger directed by Joe Johnston and starring Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper features music by Alan Silvestri. A soundtrack album including the composer’s score has been released on Buena Vista Records. Check out our soundtrack announcement for more information and audio clips. Also featured on the album is the song Star Spangled Man (music by Alan Menken and lyrics by David Zippel). Also opening wide is the comedy Friends with Benefits directed by Will Gluck and starring Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, Woody Harrelson, Patricia Clarkson, Richard Jenkins, Emma Stone, Jenna Elfman and Andy Samberg. Varese Sarabande has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the horror sequel Final Destination 5. The film’s music is composed by Brian Tyler and the album includes 19 track of the composer’s score. The soundtrack will be released on August 16, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Final Destination 5 is directed by Steven Quale and stars Nicholas D’Agosto, Emma Bell, Tony Todd and David Koechner. In Contention (via The Playlist) is reporting that Clint Mansell is scoring the upcoming biopic The Iron Lady. The movie is directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!) and stars Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher and Jim Broadbent as her husband, Denis. The film follows the former British prime minister’s career, which saw her smash through barriers of gender and class in order to be heard in a male-dominated world. Ami Morgan (Brick Lane) wrote the project’s screenplay and Damian Jones (Millions, The History Boys) is producing. The Weinstein Company has picked up domestic rights for the film and is planning a release on December 16, 2011 in time for award consideration. Read the rest of this entry »

Milan Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the second season of the Syfy series Warehouse 13. The album includes the original score from the show by composer Edward Rogers, including his Emmy-nominated main theme. The soundtrack will be released on August 30, 2011. Deborah Lurie has signed on to score the upcoming animated 3D musical Dorothy of Oz. The movie’s story is an update on The Wizard of Oz and centers on Dorothy Gale who is returning to a tornado-devastated Kansas and then being transported back to Oz to help her friend. The movie’s voice cast includes Lea Michele, Jim Belushi, Dan Akroyd, Kelsey Grammer, Oliver Platt, Martin Short, Megan Hilty and Hugh Dancy. Dorothy of Oz is directed by Dan St. Pierre (Everyone’s Hero). While Lurie is writing the score, the film’s songs are written by Bryan Adams, Tift Merritt and Jim Vallance. Jim Dooley is providing additional songs and lyrics. The film is set for a spring 2012 release. Read the rest of this entry »
