James Newton Howard has been tapped to score the action thriller The Bourne Legacy. The film stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton and Stacy Keach. Albert Finney, Scott Glenn and Joan Allen are reprising their roles from the previous parts of the series. The project marks the composer’s first score for the franchise. The previous three installments have been scored by John Powell. The fourth Bourne movie is written and directed by Tony Gilroy who was involved as a writer on the previous movies in the series and has previously worked with Newton Howard on his first two directorial efforts Michael Clayton and Duplicity. BSX Records has released a soundtrack album for the drama Fireflies in the Garden. The album features the original music written by Jane Antonia Cornish who has scored the recut version of the film for the US market. The soundtrack is available to download on Amazon and a physical release is set to come out on November 23, 2011 on buysoundtrax.com. ‘Shame’ Soundtrack Details

Sony Music will be releasing a soundtrack album for the drama Shame. The album features selections from the original score from the film by composer Harry Escott, as well as classic Bach performances from pianist Glenn Gould. Also included on the release are several songs from the movie by artists including Blondie, Howlin’ Wolf, as well as Carey Mulligan’s performance of New York, New York featured in the film. The soundtrack will be released on December 6, 2011 and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips can be checked out after the jump. Chris Bacon is the composer of the upcoming documentary High Ground. The film directed by Michael Brown tells the true story of eleven wounded veterans whose road to recovery takes them to the top of a Himalayan giant on a journey to heal the wounds of war. Don Hahn (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast) is producing the project. The movie was shot on location in Nepal and the United States and follows an expedition that teamed disabled veterans with world recognized mountain climbers, including blind Everest summiter Erik Weihenmayer. Three new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Expected to top the weekend box office is the 3D action adventure Immortals directed by Tarsem Singh and starring Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Stephen Dorff, Isabel Lucas, Freida Pinto, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz and John Hurt. The film’s music is composed by Trevor Morris. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score. Also opening wide is the historical drama J. Edgar directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Judi Dench, Stephen Root, Josh Lucas, Dermot Mulroney and Jeffrey Donovan. Eastwood has also written the score for the film. No soundtrack album has been announced, but the score can be listened to on Warner Bros’ Awards website. Lakeshore Records has announced the details of the soundtrack release for the drama I Melt With You. The album includes one track from the film’s score by tomandandy, as well as songs from the movie by artists including Big Dipper, Filter, The Pixies, Galaxie 500, The Specials, Funkadelics, Love and Rockets and Modern English. The film is directed by Tom Vaughan (What Happens in Vegas, Extraordinary Measures) and stars Miley Cyrus as a private investigator who is hired by the FBI to go undercover in the one place it can’t infiltrate – a college sorority. Jeremy Piven, Mike O’Malley, Kelly Osborne, Josh Bowman and Matthew Settle are co-starring. Allen Loeb (21, Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps) and Steven Pearl (The Switch) wrote the script and are also producing the comedy with Tish Cyrus. The project marks the first scoring assignment for Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, In Good Company) since last year’s Little Fockers, which was the composer’s highest grossing movie of his career to date. The Weinstein Company has picked up domestic rights for So Undercover and is planning a release in 2012.

Albert Nobbs is directed by Rodrigo Garcia (Mother and Child) and stars Glenn Close as a woman who must pass as a man to survive life in 19th century Ireland. Trevor Morris has signed on to score the TV series adaptation of the legal thriller The Firm. The show is based on the bestselling novel by John Grisham and the feature film adaptation starring Tom Cruise. Josh Lucas stars as attorney Mitchell McDeere who brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini, Lambert & Locke, which operated as a front for the Chicago mob. After a difficult decade, McDeere and his family now emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future, only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere. Juliette Lewis, Callum Keith Rennie, Molly Parker and Natasha Calis are co-starring in the show. David Straiton (House, Fringe) directed the pilot and Helen Shaver (Judging Amy) is producing alongside Lukas Reiter (Law & Order), John Morayniss (Hung), Michael Rosenberg (Hung) and Noreen Halpern (Rookie Blue).
