‘Frankenweenie’ Scoring Sessions

A video from the scoring sessions of Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated film Frankenweenie was published this week and shows footage from the recording sessions in London earlier this year with composer Danny Elfman and Burton in attendance.  Check out the video after the jump. Also embedded below is a short interview with the composer about the scoring process, his themes for the film and his collaboration with the director. Frankenweenie features the voices of Catherine O’Hara, Martin Short and Winona Ryder and follows a pet dog who is brought back to life by his loyal owner after it is struck by a car. ‘ThunderCats’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the Cartoon Network animated series ThunderCats have been revealed. The 2-CD set features selections of the show’s original music composed by Kevin Kliesch. The composer received an Annie Award nomination this year for his work on the show. The soundtrack will be released on October 16, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. ThunderCats produced by Ethan Spaulding and Michael Jelenic is a reboot of the 1980s series and follows the group of humanoid cats who are forced to roam the planet Third Earth, in order to find a way to defeat an evil sorcerer who plans on taking over the universe. Four new movies are opening in wide release this weekend:

Opening in most theaters is the drama Trouble with the Curve directed by Robert Lorenz and starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Matthew Lillard and Scott Eastwood. The film’s score is written by Academy Award-nominated composer Marco Beltrami (3:10 to Yuma, Scream). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album featuring Beltrami’s score digitally earlier this week. A physical version is scheduled to come out on October 16. Also opening wide is the action thriller End of Watch written and directed by David Ayer and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, America Ferrera, Frank Grillo, David Harbour and Cody Horn. David Sardy (21Zombieland, Premium Rush) has composed the film’s score. Relativity Music Group has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as a number of songs from the film including Public Enemy’s new track Harder Than You Think. ‘Smashed’ Soundtrack Details

Lakeshore Records has announced the soundtrack details for the indie drama Smashed. The album features the film’s score composed by Andy Cabic and Eric D. Johnson (Our Idiot Brother, Ceremony), as well as the songs from the movie by artists including Richard and Linda Thompson, Bart Davenport, Omero Guerrero, Cass McCombs, Dark Meat, Sonny & The Sunsets and Smog. The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 9, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album below. Smashed is directed by James Ponsoldt and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul as a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol and whose relationship is put to the test when the wife decides to get sober. Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Mary Kay Place are co-starring. Ruth Barrett Scoring ‘Hunted’

Ruth Barrett is scoring the new TV drama series Hunted. The show is created by Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files) and stars Melissa George as an operative for an elite private intelligence firm who survives an attempt on her life that may have been orchestrated by members of her own team. Adam Raymer (Hawthorne), Stephen Dillane (Game of Thrones), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Morven Christie, Lex Shrapnel, Uriel Emil, Patrick Malahide, Stephen Campbell Moore and Oscar Kennedy are co-starring. Spotnitz is executive producing the series with Alison Jackson, Jane Featherstone (MI-5), Stephen Garrett (Life on Mars, Eastern Promises) and Christopher Aird. The eight-part series is produced by Kudos Film & Television, in association with Big Light Productions and the BBC. Barrett’s previous credits include the Michael Caine-starring thriller Harry Brown, as well as the Helena Bonham Carter-starring Toast directed by S.J. Lionsgate Records will release a score soundtrack album for the coming-of-age drama The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The album features the film’s original music composed by Michael Brook (The Fighter, The Vow, Into the Wild). The score album will be released on September 25, 2012 and is now available to download on Amazon. Audio clips from all tracks can be checked out below. As previously announced, Atlantic Records has also released a soundtrack featuring the movie’s song. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is directed by Stephen Chbosky and stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Paul Rudd, Kate Walsh, Nina Dobrev, Mae Whitman and Dylan McDermott. ‘Butter’ Soundtrack Details

Following the announcement of a score album for the satirical comedy Butter earlier this week, Lakeshore Records has published the details of a separate soundtrack album featuring the movie’s songs. Artists featured on the album include Fitz and the Tantrums, Jonsi, Raphael Saadiq, Imani Coppola featuring Tim Myers, Hugo and The Constellations. Also featured is one track from Mateo Messina’s score. The soundtrack will be released on October 9, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Audio clips will be added to this article within the next few weeks. Butter directed by Jim Field Smith and starring Jennifer Garner, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ty Burrell, Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone, Ashley Greene, Rob Corddry and Kristen Schaal will be released in theaters on October 10 by the Weinstein Company’s Radius label and is also currently available on VOD. ‘Taken 2’ Soundtrack Details

The details of the soundtrack album for the action thriller Taken 2 have been revealed. The album features the film’s original score written by French composer Nathaniel Mechaly who previously scored the first installment in the series. Also included are a number of the songs featured in the film by artists including Phoebe Killdeer and the Short Straws, Kasbah Rockers and College & Electric Youth. UPDATE (October 2, 2012): The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Check out the (spoiler-heavy) track list after the jump. Taken 2 is directed by Olivier Megaton (Colombiana) and stars Liam Neeson who returns as Bryan Mills and is targeted by a vengeance-seeking crimelord. ATCO, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, has released the soundtrack album for the indie drama Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best. The album features the film’s songs performed by the Brooklyn Brothers (Ryan O’Nan and Michael Weston), as well as selections from the movie’s original score composed by Rob Simonsen (All Good Things(500) Days of Summer) and a number of other songs heard in the film. The soundtrack is now available to download on Amazon, where you can also listen to audio clips. Brooklyn Brothers Beat the Best is written and directed by Ryan O’Nan who also stars in the drama as a failing singer-songwriter who decides to hit the road with a self-appointed music revolutionary, played by Michael Weston, and rediscovers his love for life and music. Lakeshore Records will be releasing a soundtrack album for the drama Won’t Back Down. The album features the film’s original score composed by Marcelo Zarvos (The Door in the Floor, Remember Me). The soundtrack will be released digitally on October 3, 2012 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips from all tracks on the album after the jump. Won’t Back Down is directed by Daniel Barnz who previously collaborated with Zarvos on last year’s Beastly and stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis as two mothers who channel frustration into action and join forces to transform an inner-city public school in Pittsburgh.
