paul-haslingerPaul Haslinger is scoring the upcoming thriller No Good Deed. The film is directed by Sam Miller (Luther) and stars Idris Elba, Taraji P. Henson, Henry Simmons, Kate del Castillo and Mark Smith. The movie follows a former district attorney turned stay-at-home mom and her two children who are terrorized and kidnapped after she invites a stranger into their home to wait for help after his car runs off the road. Aimee Lagos (96 Minutes) has written the screenplay and Will Packer (Think Like a Man, Obsessed, Stomp the Yard) is producing the project through his Rainforest Films company, alongside Lee Clay (Beautiful Boy). toy-story-of-terrorPremiering on Thursday, October 17, on ABC is the Halloween special Toy Story of Terror directed by Angus MacLane and featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Timothy Dalton, Kristen Schaal and Carl Weathers. Michael Giacchino (UpRatatouilleThe Incredibles) has composed the music for the short. Walt Disney Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score on Tuesday, October 15. herculesTuomas Kantelinen is reteaming with director Renny Harlin on the upcoming period action adventure Hercules: The Legend Begins. The film stars Kellan Lutz in the title role, alongside Liam McIntyre, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee and Liam Garrigan. The movie tells the love story between the son of Zeus and the mortal princess of Crete, who was promised to his own brother despite her love for Hercules. Harlin has co-written the screenplay with Sean Hood (Conan the Barbarian, Halloween: Resurrection) and Steve Giulio. Les Welden and Danny Lerner (The Expendables 2Olympus Has Fallen) are producing the  Nu Image/Millennium Films production. Harlin has previously collaborated with Kantelinen on 2004’s Mindhunters. ‘Contracted’ Soundtrack Details

contractedA soundtrack album for the upcoming horror thriller Contracted is set to be released next month. The album features the film’s original music composed by Kevin Riepl (Gears of War, the upcoming Cabin Fever: Patient Zero). The soundtrack will be released digitally on November 12, 2013 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. Check out audio clips after the jump. Contracted is written and directed by Eric England (Madison County, Roadside) and stars Najarra Townsend, Matt Mercer, Alice Macdonald, Katie Stegeman, Charley Koontz, Caroline Williams and Simon Barrett. The movie follows a young woman who fears she’s picked up a nasty STD only to discover it’s something far worse. laurent-eqyuemLaurent Eyquem is currently scoring the upcoming documentary mini-series 14 Diaries of the Great War. The docudrama tells the story of World War I through the eyes of those who lived through it from opposite sides of the conflict. 14 stories from seven different countries have been selected from more than 1,000 accounts contained in diaries and letters, including the story of a German soldier, a French child and a British lady who volunteered as a war nurse. Jan Peter is directing the series and Florian Dedio & Elisabeth Kiledjian are producing the project with Gunnar Dedio, Serge Lalou & Paul Cadieux executive producing. 14 Diaries of the Great War is set to premiere in time for the centenary of the outbreak of WWI in 2014 and will air internationally on BBC, ARTE France, Arte Germany, RAI and more than 40 other countries. Two new movies are opening wide this weekend:

captain-phillipsOpening in most theaters is the docudrama Captain Phillips directed by Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, United 93) and starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Keener, Barkhad Abdi, Barkhad Abdirahman, Faysal Ahmed, Mahat M. Ali, Michael Chernus, Corey Johnson and Max Martini. The film’s music is composed by Henry Jackman (X-Men: First Class, Wreck-It-Ralph). Varese Sarabande has released a soundtrack album for the film featuring the composer’s score earlier this week. machete-killsAlso opening wide is the action sequel Machete Kills written and directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir and Mel Gibson. The film’s music is composed by Rodriguez himself and Carl Thiel (Grindhouse: Planet Terror, Shorts). Morada Music has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s music, as well as an original end title track by Tito & Tarantula (From Dusk Till Dawn) and two tracks by Chingon. sunshine-on-leithNeapolitan Music has released a soundtrack album for the film adaptation of the stage musical Sunshine on Leith. The album features the songs from the film by movie’s cast. Also included are selections from the film’s original score composed by Paul Englishby (An Education, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day). The soundtrack is now available digitally in the UK and will be released in the UK on October 1, 2013. Click here to listen to audio clips. No word yet on a domestic release date. Sunshine on Leith is directed by Dexter Fletcher and stars Peter Mullan, Jane Horrocks, George McKay, Kevin Guthrie, Antonia Thomas and Freya Mavor. The film based on the musical by Stephen Greenhorn follows a young man and a woman who have to re-learn how to live life in Edinburgh after coming home from serving in Afghanistan. ed-woodHowe Records has announced a new soundtrack edition for Tim Burton’s 1995 biographical drama Ed Wood starring Johnny Depp, Martin Landau who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi, as well as Sarah Jessica Parker and Patricia Arquette. The album features the remastered film’s original score composed and conducted by Howard Shore (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Silence of the Lambs, The Departed) and performed by London Philharmonic Orchestra, including a number of previously unreleased bonus tracks. gloria-chengPiano Spheres, the solo piano series whose mission is committed to introduce major new works for the piano, has announced this year’s opening concert. On November 12, Grammy-winning pianist Gloria Cheng will perform the world premieres of several original piano works by major film composers for the Opening Night program, entitled “Montage.” Academy Award-winning composers John Williams (Star Wars, Schindler’s List), Michael Giacchino (Up, Star Trek) and Randy Newman (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.) who composed a piece in homage to Alfred, Emil and Lionel Newman, are featured on the program, as well as Bruce Broughton (Silverado) and Don Davis (The Matrix). Sam Spiegel and Koool G Murder have composed the music for the upcoming comedy Bad Grandpa. The film is directed by Jeff Tremaine (Jackass movie series) and stars Johnny Knoxville who punks strangers while in character as senior citizen Irving Zisman. Knoxville and Tremaine are also producing the MTV Films production with Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation) and Derek Freda. Unlike the filmmaker’s Jackass features, the movie is said to have a plot connecting the stunts and pranks together and follows Zisman who is tasked with taking his grandson to live with his father after his mother is jailed. Spiegel who is also known as Squeak E. Clean has previously scored a number of shorts for his brother Spike Jonze. Read the rest of this entry »
