Chris Bacon is currently recording his score for Rob Reiner’s upcoming drama Being Charlie. The movie follows an 18-year-old who breaks out of a youth drug treatment clinic, but when he returns home to Los Angeles, he’s given an intervention by his parents and forced to go to an adult rehab. The film stars Nick Robinson, Morgan Saylor, Common, Devon Bostick, Susan Misner, Ricardo Chavira and Cary Elwes. Reiner is also producing the project with Simon Goldberg through their Castle Rock Entertainment company, alongside Johnson Chan and Stephanie Rennie. ‘Irrational Man’ Soundtrack Released

Madison Gate Records has released a soundtrack album for Woody Allen’s comedy drama Irrational Man. The album features the music from the movie by artists including Mikey B, Ramsey Lewis Trio, Paul Eakins, Daniel May Jazz Combo, The Jimmy Bruno Trio and David O’Neal, as well as three pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach. The soundtrack is now available to download on iTunes, where you can also listen to audio clips. Irrational Man is written and directed by Allen and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Jamie Blackley, Parker Posey and Emma Stone. Variety is reporting that Van Alexander died this afternoon at age 100 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He composed scores for several 1960s sitcoms including Bewtiched, I Dream of Jeannie, Hazel, The Donna Reed Show and Dennis the Menace. Throughout his career, Alexander earned three Emmy Award nominations for his music direction for The Wacky World of Jonathan Winters and The Golddiggers, as well as for his music for 1970s Gene Kelly’s Wonderful World of Girls. His film scoring credits include The Atomic Kid, Baby Face Nelson, Andy Hardy Comes Home, 13 Frightened Girls, Strait-Jacket and Girls Town. Read the rest of this entry »

Composer Joe Kraemer has published the first track from his score for the action thriller Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. The movie follows a Las Vegas chef and a promising fashion designer whose love affair is badly derailed when the woman’s past and present demons resurface. Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the superhero movie Ant-Man directed by Peyton Reed and starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Tip “TI” Harris, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà and Michael Douglas. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Elektra, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and other music from the Marvel Studios production. Also opening wide is the romantic comedy Trainwreck directed by Judd Apatow and written by Amy Schumer who also stars in the movie alongside Bill Hader, LeBron James, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton, John Cena and Ezra Miller. Jon Brion (Magnolia, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Punch Drunk Love, The Other Guys) who previously scored Apatow’s This Is 40 has composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Trainwreck follows a commitment-averse woman who is trying to get past her self-sabotaging ways. Gabriel Yared is scoring the upcoming French biographical period drama Chocolat. The film is directed by actor Roschdy Zem and stars Omar Sy, James Thierree and Clothilde Hesme. The movie tells the life story of Padilla, aka Chocolat, who became the first black artist to appear on a French stage in the 19th century and centers around his lifelong friendship with a white artist nicknamed Footit.
