Two new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:

ant-manOpening in most theaters is the superhero movie Ant-Man directed by Peyton Reed and starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Tip “TI” Harris, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà and Michael Douglas. The film’s original music is composed by Christophe Beck (Frozen, Elektra, Edge of Tomorrow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Hollywood Records has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score and other music from the Marvel Studios production. trainwreckAlso opening wide is the romantic comedy Trainwreck directed by Judd Apatow and written by Amy Schumer who also stars in the movie alongside Bill Hader, LeBron James, Brie Larson, Tilda Swinton, John Cena and Ezra Miller. Jon Brion (MagnoliaEternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindPunch Drunk LoveThe Other Guys) who previously scored Apatow’s This Is 40 has composed the film’s original music. mr-holmesOpening in limited release is the drama Mr. Holmes directed by Bill Condon and starring Ian McKellen, Laura Linney and Milo Parker. The film’s original music is composed by Carter Burwell (FargoTwilight, No Country for Old Men, Adaptation). Lakeshore Records will release a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score digitally next week and physically in August. irrational-manAlso opening in select theaters is the drama Irrational Man written and directed by Woody Allen and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jamie Blackley, Parker Posey and Emma Stone. The movie doesn’t feature an original score and no word yet on a soundtrack release. Irrational Man follows a tormented philosophy professor who finds a will to live when he commits an existential act. The drama premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and is being released by Sony Pictures Classics. Visit the official movie website for more information about the film.

stanford-prison-experimentAlso opening in select cities is the psychological thriller The Stanford Prison Experiment directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and starring Billy Crudup, Ezra Miller, Michael Angarano, Tye Sheridan, Johnny Simmons, Olivia Thirlby, Keir Gilchrist and Thomas Mann. The film’s original score is composed by Andrew Hewitt (The DoubleSubmarine). No soundtrack album has been announced yet. The Stanford Prison Experiment tells the true story of a Stanford University professor who, in 1971, cast 24 student volunteers as prisoners and guards in a simulated jail to examine the source of abusive behavior in the prison system. lila-and-eveAnother limited release this weekend is the thriller Lila & Eve directed by Charles Stone III and starring Viola Davis, Jennifer Lopez, Shea Whigham, Chris Chalk, Julius Tennon, Andre Royo, Aml Ameen, Yolonda Ross, Diarra Kilpatrick and Ron Caldwell. Alexis & Sam (We’ll Never Have Paris) have composed the film’s original music. No word yet on a soundtrack release. Lila & Eve follows a grief-stricken mother who in the aftermath of her son’s murder in a drive-by shooting attends a support group where she meets a woman who has lost her daughter. The thriller premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and is being released by Samuel Goldwyn Films. Click here for more information about the film.
