Kris Dirksen is composing the score for the upcoming Cinemax original series Quarry. The show is created by Graham Gordy (The Love Guru) & Michael D. Fuller based on the novels of Max Allan Collins and stars Logan Marshall-Green, Jodi Balfour, Peter Mullan, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Damon Herriman. The series follows a Marine who returns home to Memphis from Vietnam in 1972 and finds himself shunned by those he loves and demonized by the public and is drawn into a network of killing and corruption. Gordy and Fuller are also executive producing the project with Steve Golin (The Revenant, Spotlight, Mr. Robot) and Greg Yaitanes (House) who directed all episodes of the first season. Walt Disney Records to Release ‘Pete’s Dragon’ Soundtrack

Walt Disney Records will release the official soundtrack album for the fantasy adventure Pete’s Dragon. The album features the film’s original music composed by Daniel Hart (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Comet, Tumbleweed), as well as the original song Nobody Knows (How to Say Goodbye) written by Andrew Tinker & Toby Halbrooks and performed by The Lumineers. Four new movies are opening nationwide this weekend:
Opening in most theaters is the sci-fi action adventure Independence Day: Resurgence directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward. The film’s original music is composed by Thomas Wander & Harald Kloser (2012, White House Down, The Day After Tomorrow, 10’000 BC). Also opening wide is the historical drama Free State of Jones directed by Gary Ross and starring Matthew McConaughey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali and Keri Russell. Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, A Tale of Love and Darkness) has composed the film’s original music. Sony Classical has released a soundtrack album featuring the composer’s score, as well as the original song I’m Crying by Lucinda Williams. Heitor Pereira to Return for ‘Despicable Me 3’

Heitor Pereira will be returning to provide scoring duties on the upcoming animated sequel Despicable Me 3. The film is directed by Kyle Balda (Minion) & Pierre Coffin who helmed the first two installments in the series with Chris Renaud. Eric Guillon is co-directing the film, which is written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio (The Secret Life of Pets, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who). Steve Carell returns as the voice of Gru, as well as the new character of Gru’s long lost identical twin Drew. Trey Parker has also joined the voice cast. A soundtrack album will be released for the drama The Childhood of a Leader. The album features the film’s original music composed by singer/songwriter Scott Walker. The soundtrack will be released on August 19, 2016 and is now available for pre-order on Amazon. The Childhood of a Leader marks the directorial debut of Brady Corbet and stars Bérénice Bejo, Robert Pattinson, Liam Cunningham, Stacy Martin, Yolande Moreau and Tom Sweet. The movie is set in 1918 and tells the story of a young American living in France whose father is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. Jeff Russo to Score Syfy’s ‘Channel Zero’

Jeff Russo is set to score the upcoming Syfy original series Channel Zero. The show is created by Nick Antosca (The Forest) based on Kris Straub’s online short story and will star Paul Schneider, Fiona Shaw, Shaun Benson, Natalie Brown and Luisa D’Oliveira. The anthology series centers on one man’s obsessive recollection of a mysterious children’s television program from the 1980s – and his ever-growing suspicions about the role it might have played in a series of nightmarish and deadly events from his childhood. Craig William Macneill (The Boy) will direct all episodes of the first season. John Williams Wins Saturn Award for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

John Williams was honored with the Saturn Award last night at the 42nd annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. The composer won the prize in the Best Music category for his score for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The other nominated composers were Ennio Morricone (The Hateful Eight), Tom Holkenborg (Mad Max: Fury Road), Johann Johansson (Sicario), M.M. Keeravani (Baahubali: The Beginning) and Fernando Velazquez (Crimson Peak). Williams’ score for the seventh Star Wars episode is available on Walt Disney Records. The composer has previously received Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for his work on the film.
Songs from FX’s ‘Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll’ Season 2 to Be Released

FX Networks will release several new songs from the second season of the FX original series Sex& Drugs& Rock&Roll. To be released on June 30 are the tracks Ain’t No Valentine performed by the early 90’s New York band from the show called The Assassins (feat. Elizabeth Gillies), as well as Hush performed by Ava X & Liza Colby. A week later, July 7, sees the release of the songs Liar & Go Funk Yourself performed by The Davvy O’s & Rebecca Naomi Jones. On July 14, FX will release the track Don’t Break Me Too and two weeks later, Just Le Me Go, both performed by The Assassins (feat. Elizabeth Gillies). ‘The Red Turtle’ Soundtrack Details

IDOL and Quartet Records will release a soundtrack album for the animated feature The Red Turtle. The album features the film’s original music composed by Laurent Perez Del Mar (Zarafa, Fears of the Dark). The soundtrack will be released overseas this Friday, June 24 and in the U.S. later this year or in early 2017. Visit Amazon to download the album and to check out audio samples. The Red Turtle is directed by Michael Dudok de Wit and follows the major life stages of a castaway on a deserted tropical island populated by turtles, crabs and birds.
