Dino Meneghin has been hired to score the upcoming action comedy Why We’re Killing Gunther. The film marks the directorial debut of actor Taran Killam and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bobby Moynihan, Cobie Smulders, Paul Brittain, Hannah Simone and Ryan Gaul. Killam also wrote the screenplay and appears in the movie, which follows a group of eccentric assassins who are fed up with Gunther, the world’s greatest hit-man and decide to kill him. He is also producing the project with Kim Leadford, Ash Sarohia and Steve Squillante (13 Sins).

John Paesano to Score Marvel’s Netflix Series ‘The Defenders’
John Paesano has been tapped to score Marvel’s upcoming Netflix original series The Defenders. The show is developed by Douglas Petrie & Marco Ramirez (Daredevil) and stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist, all of which are reprising their roles from their own shows. Élodie Yung is also starring as Elektra Natchios. The 8-parter based on the Marvel Comics characters takes place a few months after the events of the second season of Daredevil and follows the superheroes as they team-up in New York City.
Evan Lurie Scoring Stanley Tucci’s ‘Final Portrait’
Evan Lurie is reteaming with actor/director Stanley Tucci on the upcoming drama Final Portrait. The film is written and directed by Tucci and stars Geoffrey Rush, Armie Hammer, Clémence Poésy, Tony Shalhoub, James Faulkner and Sylvie Testud. The movie is based on James Lord’s book A Giacometti Portrait and centers on Swiss painter-sculptor Alberto Giacometti who died in 1966 and is best remembered for his stark and surrealistic sculptures. Gail Egan (A Most Wanted Man, A Little Chaos, Our Kind of Traitor), Nik Bower and Ilann Girard (Lebanon) are producing the project.
‘The Game of Thrones Symphony’ Album Announced
Silva Screen Records has announced The Game of Thrones Symphony album, which features new recordings of the show’s original music from the HBO hit series composed by Ramin Djawadi (Westworld, Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Warcraft, Clash of the Titans). The symphony was recorded with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Check out a video from the recording of one of tracks after the jump. Djawadi’s music from the first six seasons of the show is available on WaterTower Music and Varese Sarabande.
Stephen Warbeck Scoring Joel Hopkins’ ‘Hampstead’
Stephen Warbeck has recently recorded his score for the upcoming British drama Hampstead. The film is directed by Joel Hopkins (Last Chance Harvey, Jump Tomorrow) and stars Diane Keaton, Brendan Gleeson and James Norton. The movie centers on an American widow who finds unexpected love with a man living wild on Hampstead Heath when they take on the developers who want to destroy his home. Robert Festinger (In the Bedroom, Trust) wrote the screenplay. Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae (Nowhere Boy, Becoming Jane, Black Death, The Water Horse) are producing the project for Ecosse Films.

Hans Zimmer & Richard Harvey Win Annie Award for ‘The Little Prince’
Hans Zimmer, Richard Harvey and vocalist Camille were honored with an Annie Award in the Outstanding Achievement, Music in an Animated Feature Production category for the music for The Little Prince. Director Mark Osborne accepted the award on the composers’ behalf at the awards ceremony at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The other contenders in the category were Joby Talbot for Sing, Laurent Perez del Mar for The Red Turtle, Alexandre Desplat for The Secret Life of Pets and Kristopher Carter, Lolita Ritmanis & Michael McCuistion for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.
‘Justice League Dark’ Soundtrack to Be Released
WaterTower Music will release a soundtrack album for the DC Universe Original Movie Justice League Dark. The album features the film’s original music composed by Robert J. Kral (Angel, The Haunting in Connecticut, Superman/Doomsday, Green Lantern: First Flight). The soundtrack will be released digitally on February 7, 2017 and can now be pre-ordered on Amazon, where you can also check out audio clips. A limited edition CD version is set to be released the following week by La-La Land Records.
